well pretty much as the title says, im wondering what raw marks i need to aim for to hit a band 6. my teacher said shes expecting the top 5 to get band 6's in my class, im 3rd and id probbaly get a 75-85% raw... would that be scaled to a band 6?

thanks for any feedback

Well it varies every year due to the level of difficulty of the exam.

But last year's band 6 cut off would have been about 82 (or even lower) so if you get over 80, then you would probably be on your way to a band 6.

My teacher is willing to bet that the top 3 of our class of 6 will get band 6 in the HSC, based on the marks that we have been getting I'd say that about 85 or possibly lower will get you into band 6, but as passion89 says it depends on the test, if the top mark in the year was 45 then 40 would get you into band 6.

wait, I've never really thought about this before.
I though it was just the UAI that gets scaled.

I thought band 6 was 90-100, band 5 80-90 etc

if not, what was last years cut off for band 5

It is (aligned mark). Band 5 is actually the aligned mark (which is moderated from your raw exam mark and assessment mark) from 80-89.

yes lauren but that is a band 6 in terms of the amount of students who performed well.

have you looked at last year's hsc exam for 2006? if you got 90/100 in that exam you are probably a genius.

i would say the mark is gonna be a lot higher this year. The exam this year for physics was a lot easier (i found) than last year's paper. And i doubt i'm the only one who thinks that either. So i believe it's gonna be a lot tougher to get into band 6 then you think.

so does anyone other than UAC get to see your raw marks? Are they sent to your school?

Also, In my physics class, we had a 3-way tie for 1st place. I've heard that the person who gets the highest assesment mark basically gets the highest exam mark, even if it isn't really their mark (really simplified and probably wrong)

If this is true, is this just for UAI scaling or is this for the mark you get back aswell. And does this mean that we (me and the other two who got first - trippy hey?) will all get basically the same mark?

EDIT:
Also, I know that one of the people who came first will definately beat me in the test, does this mean that I will get their higher mark too?

The UAC doesn't get to see your raw marks, only the Board of Studies.
You get your own mark + the one corresponding to which place you get.
UAI scaling is totally different and really complicated.
