60 something p.a. is also taking into account that my mother's head teacher of welfare all the time i think, and half the time is head of her department and also spent about 6 months doing head teacher of administration... so that's above a normal teachers salary anyhow... oh yeah and she's a year adviser too

My mum's a teacher, she's an assist. principal and I don't think she gets paid enough. Not only does she have her regular class, she has to fill in when the principal isn't there (which is often), she does the work of another teacher with organising the entire schools reading program, organises school sport, coaches a majority of the schools sports teams, deals with parents, whinging teachers and the P and C.

My mum gets about $60k, if it was possible, I'd say, pay teachers on the amount of work that they do. But it can't be like that.
Unfortunately for people like my mum, the amount of work that some people put in is not rewarded, financially or by the school.

Its stupid. If anyone should be going on strike, it should be those who put in more than they have to.

I think principals of catholic schools get something close to that, but I'm not sure. I know that they get more than state school principals. High school principals also get more than primary too I think.. but I could be wrong.

yeah that's why your mum gets 60k, in the other thread i think someone else whose parent are teachers said they get 50k

haha yes :)

No, my mum just gets so stressed, not because she doesn't get paid enough, but I just see how tense and tired she gets and I think, shit, why shouldn't she get more money for the work she does?

I just want to say that I'm not operating for my own economic benefit - frankly, my dad earns enough to support us all and send me through uni. I don't think mum should get more cuz we're poor, I think she should get more because she works damn hard and her pay doesn't reflect that. And yeah, I'm using my mother as the example, because she's the teacher I've seen pretty much every day for 17 years. There are plenty of teachers I know, both at my school and at other schools, who work just as hard as my mum, and I think they deserve the payrise just as much as she does. Asquithian, I read about half of the other thread, and I think the thing you're missing, is that while teachers may have a high level of starting pay, they hit a plataeu that you don't find in most other qualified professions.

PS. - I think it was you who said teachers don't have to research. Bullshit. I have approx. 300 different drama and english related books to my right that say something different.

i'd agree with jess, because at the moment there's only a very marginal increase in pay over the years. and also, if need be, overtime for extra-school activities like sporting teams, camps and school dances etc. somewhere in the league of $40-$50 an hour
