Hey. I'm getting my P's in about 5 months, so im gonna be buying a car pretty soon hopefully. The only thing is, i know shit all about cars. So, i was wondering what would be a good car to get for a first car that'd be somewhere around the $7,500 to $12,000 limit? A friend today suggested i get a Honda Civic Type-R, but i have no idea how much that would cost.

Thanks.

Do your rents have any requirements? Eg. Safe, Economical, Family sized, Automatic, etc...? or do you have any specific requirements apart from what seems to be performance?

Also, what do you plan to use the car for and how often? Like is it only for going out to parties, or shopping, or school/uni, etc..?

cars around the 2.0L range are good cars which have some power and are pretty economical, like a guy above said, a mx6 aint to bad cars, i also nearly got myself one, a 98' for about $8000 once which was in decent condition.

Well, either some kind of sedan or sports car. I'd just be using it for me to cruise around in most of the time, so either a 2 seater or 4 seater would be fine. My parents don't have any specific requirements. I think they just go by the rule that it's my money and i can do what i want with it. I'd probably be using it everyday. Driving it to work on the weekends and to school on school days.

Thanks for postin :)

soarer's are v8's or v6 twin turbo's.
Not legal for him.

If petrol costs arent a concern, you could pick up a late 90's/00's v6 commodore or falcon for about ten.

a good e36 318i is like 12k would be a nice cruiser but it would need 18s and a system

Get yourself a big ass american car on gas, say a pontiac or somethin, they are poppin up here and there these days, you wont be tempted to speed cos they are a cruiser, best way to keep your licence.

Wish i had the pontiac my uncle does, much rather that than my HSV

the cost of petrol alone would deter many people from getting a v8. oh and pontiacs are generally ugly. monaro > gto

The old school pontiacs are awesome, say a 68 parrisenne, tough as cruiser. Get one on gas and they arnt too bad, a mate has a 350 chev on gas in a HQ as his daily, its all good. New school yes, most pontiacs are shocking, but old school 50s-70s, stuff dreams were made of and kids made in
