Bullshit. I have friends with Skylines and Pulsars with over 100,000 kms and the head gaskets are fine. I think you're thinking of mitsubishis.

There is one mitsu at UWS and the alloys are so oversized for the car that the tyres are constantly scrubbing on the guards. I don't see how you could not realise :s

I would love to see what happens when it goes around bends.
