Laboratory = practical work. There can be lectures, tutorials, labs, seminars, and probably more.

It's basically Excel, graphing and all that stuff

Pretty much a bludge..back when I did it, all you had to do was turn up to all classes to get 5 marks for assessment

Heh, cool :)
So does Lab have separate assessments as well, or do we just get the usual assignments/exams during tutes/lectures?

I think the attendance is the assessment for Labs, which is 5 worth marks.

2 quizzes in tutorial classes 5 marks each.

Mid-session at randwick 20 marks.

Finals at randwick 65 marks.

Not meaning to be stupid but is it BYO computer or do you use the uni's?
LOL

Attached is the 2005 QMB Lab, I don't have QMA one but it's similar, maybe with more writing. But it's clear and simple, it tells you where to click and everything. When I had to go to QMB labs, I went to the class, waited for the tutor, got my name ticked off and left. Most of the time he didn't even look at my work, just asked if I had any questions.

Yeah, it's only 4 weeks if I remember.

Alot people just email around the completed work and hand that in, without doing it themselves.

In QMA they did directly test the computer work in the finals, however it was really simple. As long as you know how to create a simple formula you'll be fine...

^ Does that count as cheating?
I guess so. But everyone does it, and the tutors don't usually care much because they [can't / wouldn't be bothered to] discriminate if you've done it yourself at home, or just copied from a friend.

The reason I ask is you read about those anti-cheating systems that the universities use to disqualify students... and I mean, what's the point in cheating such a simple thing if there's a risk they can kick you out?

Yeah I understand what you're talking about. 2-3 students in accounting 1A got busted last year for copying eachother's work. It's just not worth it.

I obviously don't endorse any cheating whatsoever.

It is good practise to do the exercises (they're very quick to complete anyway) in the labs because you're likely to be using excel later in university and possibly when you're working too.
