Whats the chance of making into UNSW B.commerce MID YEAR ENTRY with 91 +5 bonus points ATAR.

I am currently studying 1st year b.economics at USYD. I missed out on b.commerce at UNSW by 0.3 ATAR.

But now I want another go at mid year entry for b.commerce at unsw and hope that it would decrease by 0.3 ATAR.

Guys do you think its worth a go to try out??? or is it unrealistic because mid year entry would be exactly the same as before or even higher....

Hi,
I say go for it, you have nothing to lose apart from the application fee!!
As for competition, I think its less competitive if you apply during mid-semester as fewer students would apply for the course. That being said, universities would offer limited spots for the course, far less than what they offer at the beginning. Looking at your atar, you have a strong chance. However, some uni's also look at mid-semester results and weigh your atar + GPA to calculate your result (50:50). So if you're sitting at a high C, D or a HD; then you stand a strong chance. From what I've heard, usually you need a solid atar and a C average for such courses. You should be fine :)

Hey man firstly thanks for replying.

If you have university results then your meant to give to them by the 14th but I dont get university results by then so luckily it wont count.

Does anyone have any other knowledge about the competition I really want to make it this time (felt so bad missing out by 0.3 last time :(

thanks. How confident are you of this?

because it isnt unusual to see fluctations in cut offs of zero point something marks. I mean whats the chance of atar cut off being exactly the same.

Pretty confident, just from personal experience.

Yeah well.. it's mid year and i can only assume they'll just keep the same cutoff; however you may do as you please.

think you're so good saying 98.75 atar, since you've probably already done a year of uni (not sure if your 2011 hsc completion is true or not), doesnt mean jack all mate

I've heard atar matters for first year, mid-year entry, since the closing application date is (obviously) before any official sem 1 marks are released

Honestly, at Com at UNSW is so competitive you pretty much need the highest possible atar or gpa to get in.

A lot of people who miss out or decide to change courses mid year apply, but there are very few, if any spots available. You also have to compete with uni students with high GPAs who want to transfer too. There could only be 20 spots, there could be 200 (though that is extreeeememely unlikely)

Still apply, you never know how many spots there are and how many people applying, but being under the start of year cut off doesn't give you the best chance of getting in. I wouldn't get you hopes up on this one, but it isn't impossible (just improbable)
