Whats the difference between a short story and a novella? (1 Viewer)

Is there a difference in word limits, or structure of it or what..?

I'm not 100% on this one, but I think, compared to a short story, a novella is substancially longer as well as having a more coherent structure. A short story isn't required to give you all the nitty-gritty where as a novella is basically a shortened novel.
That's my perception of it at least...
