I just use books and the internet. Articles and magazines if a variety of sources are required to maximise your marks.

I use Wikipedia to get a general overview, then move on to other sites.

In rank of which ones i generally go to first for info:

1.Textbooks
2. Books from local library (woot cabramatta whitlam library :D )
3. Databases and articles on State library
4. Other internet resources (SMH, wiki, sparknotes and other random websites)
Very similar to my preferences.

Textbooks first if i can, then library books. :read:

That's pretty much what I do... even the part about going to the Whitlam library - Fairfield library is so dodgy so I go to the one in Cabra.

Yeah but you can't borrow stuff from the State Library...
Also I live in the South West of Sydney ... so it'll be a pain to get there.

I like to start on the internet. Find a few good sites and get an idea of what the subject is about, what I should be looking for, etc. Then, I usually head over to google books to have a look at some ebooks, and if I find anything worthwhile, I can go get it at the library or just use the google version.

Depending on the topic, textbooks are also somewhat useful.

textbooks yes! ebooks on google wow! They are alright but they hurt my eyes ..so i prefer to go straight to the library if websites don't help :)

Books (Encyclopedias) then the net. When it come to research for assignments, I forbid myself from using Wikipedia.

According to my schoolmates, for an SOR assignment, a fair few relied heavily on Wikipedia. Little did they know that the information presented was irrelevant, perhaps false. God knows what happened from there on.
Punny.

If I know nothing at all, I'll google it first to give me a rough idea of the subject.
If I know a bit, I'll find a book to flesh out my idea of the subject.
If I know what I want, journal articles.

Straight to google :D
and then books...if I must.
But Wikipedia is no good. Don't ever use it as a reference.
If you can't resist Wikipeida, at least go to the reference list at the bottom of the page and use them instead, they are usually more reliable sources such as educational institutes. Teachers love that.

Usually when you get assignments, the things you're researching should be in textbooks. Depending on what the assignment is for, I go straight for textbooks. Otherwise, I think it's best to get a general understanding in the most convenient way possible (usually internet) and then just supplement this with books (or at least, just to add it to your bibliography).

As for wikipedia, wikipedia is usually pretty accurate when it comes to information for assignments. It's good to use to be able to understand initial concepts before moving on to better and more reliable sources and the links at the bottom can often be useful. But even if you use it, never ever list it in your bibliography etc. etc.

I agree with the majority in saying that you would never cite or use information from Wikipedia, but would use it to gain a basic understanding of concepts. Once i have a bsaic understanding, i go for online encyclopedias/journals/credible sites for foundation information , then books for subjective/ciritical insight. oh and i check out what documentaries at the local library.

And Youtube can be useful if you're studying a topic and have no idea about it, then you find a video and it makes it easier to comprehend. But again, I'd never use it for an actual assessment

Internet.
Books. No I don't physically get them, who do you think I am? Google books +1.

A guy at my school found the son of some Nazi dude from for his Modern History speech as a source. Needless to say, he came first.
