i think the UAI comes the day after you recieve your HSC results.

Yes, that's right.

Thur 18 December 2008: UAIs released by UAC on UAC's website from 9am
Fri 19 December 2008: Students receive 2008 HSC results from the
NSW Board of Studies and their UAI from UAC via mail

Wait, isn't it the HSC results on the 18th and UAI on the 19th?

No the HSC results are available on the 17th December and the UAI the 18th December.
