No, you pay 500, you get discount for that 500...if you pay 1000, you get discount for that 1000. you DO NOT get 20% discount for the WHOLE semester, the only way this is going to happen is to pay the whole amount.

Say your whole amount for this semester is 2500. if you pay 500, the government pay the uni $125, so your debt is reduced by $625. If you pay the whole thing, say 2000, the government pay 500. I hope you get what i meant. You don't get 20% discount for the whole $2500 if you pay just 500. You only get discount of what you pay.

You check my.unsw liabilty, which is still zero on mine. It will have a number on it soon, someone said 15th Feb :D
Then you pay with various options, like online, pay in person at the post office...

I know this might sound stupid, but do full-deferrals mean I make no upfront payment?

I postpone all payments (excluding Student Fees) and only start paying when I graduate and earn over a certain amount a year ($35,000 a year from what I've been told)?

yes you don't have to pay anything then, except your student fees.

Make the distinction you are paying two things: Student fees, and HECS.

Student fees is what the university wants you to pay (the $200ish). That is always due by Friday of week 1.

HECS, which is what you're paying the government, is due on the census date.

I dont understand this. How do u pay your student contribution. On my fee statement it only has the $251.30 for student activity fees that i have to pay. There is also around $2740 in student contribution and for somereason it is minused and says deferred. I chose part payment so i can get a discount for wat i pay. On the going to uni website it says u pay 80% of your student contribution to your university and the government pays the other 20%. But how do u pay your student contribution if it is minused on the statement.
