I'm not 100% sure. It could be because many more young people believe that the elected Government should be 'socially responsible' and that employees, under-represented groups, Indigenous Australians etc should have more rights; rather than the Government supporting employers and businesses, encouraging the free market concept and the adoption of generally more conservative views. That's just a stab though. Young people are generally more inclined to feel strongly about the rights of others, the protection of the environment etc, but once they're in the workforce fulltime or own their own businesses this may change.

Apparently young people will also vote for the same party as their favourite parent.

If you were to do the republicans in the USA they would score almost far right on economic policy and right on all the other issues.
