Excerpted: Mark Steyn: Salute Danna Vale
The backbencher raises legitimate questions about demographic changes
February 16, 2006

"When the fastest-breeding demographic group on the planet is also the one most resistant to the pieties of the social-democratic state that's a profound challenge. Yes, yes, I know Islam is very varied, and Riyadh has a vibrant gay scene, and the Khartoum Feminist Publishing Collective now has so many members they've rented lavish new offices above the clitorectomy clinic. I don't claim to have all the answers, except when I'm being interviewed live on TV. But that's better than claiming, as most of Vale's disparagers do, that there aren't even any questions.

Where she goes wrong is in consigning the Lucky Country to the same trash can of history as Old Europe. For Australia, this is not hail and farewell - or, as the Romans put it, ave atque (Danna) vale. Japan is unicultural: a native population ageing and dying. Europe is bicultural: a fading elderly population yielding to a young surging Islam.

But Australia, like the US, is genuinely multicultural, at least in the sense that its immigration is not from a single overwhelming source. The remorseless transformation of Eutopia into Eurabia is already prompting the Dutch to abandon their country in record numbers, for Canada and New Zealand.

In the years ahead, North America and Australia will have the pick of European talent and a chance to learn the lessons of its self-extinction, as they apply to abortion and much else.

In the '70s and '80, Muslims had children - those self-detonating Islamists in London and Gaza and Bali are a literal baby boom - while westerners took all those silly books about overpopulation seriously. A people that won't multiply can't go forth or go anywhere. Those who do will shape the world we live in. "
Aside for the racist underpinnings of the story, it is interesting to note the gradual change in ideology of the neo-cons from loving immigration to loathing it. The above article convieniently negates mentioning immigration however, focussing on the impending and distrastrous fall of the West under the wraith of Allah.

But upon a google search..

Mark Steyn said:
“The progressive agenda —lavish social welfare, abortion, secularism, multiculturalism—is collectively the real suicide bomb.”
Evidently, according to Steyn, the problems lie in multiculturalism, secularism, low white fertility, etc. Fix those things, and the Muslim threat would also be fixed. To me anyway it seems as though perhaps, through not focussing on immigration, Steyn is attempting to assert clandestinely his own moral and ethical concerns. Not unlike his neocon pals in the Bush Adminstration, it seems he is using a fear of decline in the West to push his own anti-abortion, anti-Islam, anti-secularist and essentially racist ideology.

Thoughts?

Progressive as in left-wing as in socialist, I suppose he means.

I think it was a bit extreme when he implied there might be a Yemeni empire in the next generation. It's also the first time I've ever read a prediction of China not becoming a superpower, which is at odds with a lot of economists (as far as I know). AND it's also very strange to see someone with such views hailing multiculturalism as our saviour, in direct contradiction to the other quote.

On the other hand, the Islam-isation of Europe seems fairly likely. It's not mentioned there but I've seen figures as high as 3.7 for the Muslim birthrate vs. 1.7 for whites.

Steyn: an Islamophobic intellectual.

Vale: an Islamophobic retard.

An interesting piece, although it's mostly speculation and does nothing other than to fan the flames of racism and continued division by suggesting that Muslims will establish a global Caliphate. It's nothing more than manna for Islamophobic whites to point at and exclaim "see! They're taking over!".

As for Steyn's supporting evidence of an Islamic world takeover, sheer numbers alone won't deliver global domination. It was Britain's technological advancement that enabled it to maintain its massive empire, not the size of its population. Britain dominated India and China, two countries with far greater populations than Britain.

Yemen will similarly need to develop advanced technologies, enough to challange China and the US. Something I find extremely unlikely.

Ok here's a related question. Do you think we should take the compatability of potential immigrant groups into account when planning immigration policy?

It's gonna have to be implemented, no matter what government we will have, it is just an ugly fact that we have had to bear. I think that our immigration policy is favouring these countries whilst they play the "victim" card. There are plenty of South Americans and Eastern Europeans who can benefit our next wave, this time we should make them feel welcome and definately less problems will be in their integration.

I was watching Billy Connolly just before on Enough Rope and I agree that religion is fucked and about the cartoons, if they can't take a joke, fuck 'em.

Also this cartoon might spark interest: http://www.markfiore.com/animation/toon.html
