Would you care to support those statements with some hard evidence? My career prospects lie largely in academia and research, and I *know* people work extremely hard in my fields. Take away the academics with their so-called "useless studies" and you have policy-making with a lot less information.frog12986 said:Beazley is a Rhodes scholar... need I say more... academics are inadequate to develop policy as they only pay attention to their useless studies which hold no practical usage... they've never worked a day in their life and try to find a politically correct explanation for every ill that exists in society...
Sure, there are some academics like that. But I think you'll find, on the whole, that academics have an appreciation for their field and for the *limits* of their knowledge. (Except, of course, when students challenge them, which is another story...j/k )Not-That-Bright said:Alot of academics get wrapped up in the academia...
As they are 'experts' in say economics or psychology they feel they are better capable to comment on just about any issue, however unrelated to their field.
Again, true that some academics are out of touch with the real world. I'm not arguing that they're all perfect. But I think they have an important role to play in making policy.Not-That-Bright said:There is a fair bit of intellectual arrogance which usually leads people to believing that their complex concepts are possible, when an idiot will look at it and immediately see where it just won't happen.
