Anyway raginsheep, would you still have the homework worksheets lying around in your house or something because i need help with the following in the 2nd week of homework.

1 c): how do you get rid of the imaginary numbers e.g i got cos(-2 n pi)/3 while i was working the question out however got stuck there because i did not know what to convert it to

3) Can you use de moivre's theorem for something like (cos theta - isin theta)^ 5?

4) What are you meant to do??

7) With the final answer, is there a denominator in there? Because my answer does not seem simplified enough due to it still having a denominator.

The rule is you're supposed to do the work yourself, hand in the homework with as much done, get it back marked and correct your errors with the aid of your tutor during workshop.
Sorry I'd like to help but I'm not your tutor... :p

(cos theta - isin theta)^ 5?
No first you have to change the "-" to "+" by doing this [cos(-@) + isin(-@)]5 which using the rule gives [cos(-5@) + isin(-5@)]

DeMoivre's rule is (cos @ + isin @)k = (cos k@ + isin k@)

NOTE

The complex number must be in polar form before using DeMoivre's Theorem

Yes i have but it doesnt say anything about helping each other, it just says we arent to copy each other.
I just want to know how to start off with the questions.

And you know Riviet, one of the questions you told me how to do on the first week homework WAS WRONG!!!!!!!!!!!! Do you have to realise the denominator or is there two ways of doing it??

Housemouse:

I remember that question if it is the one I'm thinking of.

z = w + 1 / w - 1 where z = cis2@ I think.

It would be possible to obtain the solution by realising the denominator but this would be a much, much slower way to do the question... You need to use trigonometric results... break the cos2@ on numerator and denominator up...

If your tutor is telling you to realise the denominator, he is telling you the slower method. I say that this is so, and it's my question(!), so therefore I am the authority on such a matter. :p

Riviet:

As an aside, since it seems you have finished the question, perhaps you would like to think about the same question if you were given: z = w + 1 / w - 1 where z = cis@ which is what I had intended at some stage before deciding it was somewhat too difficult.

As Mill has outlined, there are two ways you can approach the question, the one I suggested is more elegant than realising the denominator, which does require a fair amount of working.

You seem to take the homework very seriously.....

Dude, I don't mean to be harsh but 4u is meant to be hard and Prior will set hard questions so stop complaining everytime theres a question you can't do. Just do as much as you can while referring to the class notes. It doesn't matter if you don't manage to do all of the hw and/or making sure that everything is correct first time!! Just make sure that you've demostrated some reasonable attempt at the questions. Patch up on your knowledge by asking your class teacher/tutor during breaks or any other free time and also during workshops. If you feel you're falling behind, then book some extra ones. You're paying alot for all this shit so you might as well get your moneys worth for it.
