I think that it's more the paranoia associated with compromised luggage and the fact that she is 'Australian' proclaiming her innocence that is/was far more important than her being an 'attractive' young woman.

nah i think ppl are just pissed right now because she got 20 years.
not to mention that in indonesian courts you are trying to prove innocence, rather than prove guilt.

i think she is guilty anyways- the media's extensive coverage is stated in llamalope's synopsis.

Yes I think it is 'accessibility' -- we can relate very easily to her situation and it causes us fear. Hell it causes me fear, and I lean slightly towards thinking she is guilty.

The fact that she is young/female/so-called attractive, is relevant in that it makes her situation easier to identify with because she seems more human. If it was, as someone vividly described, a fat, ugly, tattooed, unsavoury looking character, we could write him off as criminal. And of course, we are not criminals, so it couldn't possibly happen to us.

she ugly

corby is an ugly slut. um she put the drugs in the bag, i mea fock who goes around with 4kg of drugs and doesnt know its in there bag. its her fault she should be more careful (if its not hers).

Relatively the sentence is quite small compared to indonesian law, she was facing death and life sentence, but nevertheless it is harsh. but i guess indonesians have to be harsh they need to get rid of people, isnt it the most densely populated area, so the death sentence is a way of reducing tht.

but it happens all the time, she definetly wasnt the first to get caught, otherwise the law would be reduced, there is far too much drug trafficking in indonesia and i guess thats why the penalties are really harsh.

my point being is that for her it really is difficult to prove her innocence, to prove her guilty, well who goes around with 4kg of drugs (even if itf not heres) to another country?

thy are trying to send a message? kill ppl!

its a huge factor in the public determining guilt. if it was just some dude, no one would give a shit, just like no one gives a shit about david hicks being in a place a million times worse than a bali prison cell.

Fuck, I'm sick of all this Corby bullshit. Its a totally overblown media circus. I mean at first it might of been interesting but now its just been done to death. Its like watching Big Brother season 100000, sooner or later people are just gonna get pissed off and change the channel or switch the TV off.

And I think the reason why people sympathise with her is because of her shocked and traumatic facial expressions. She isn't the least bit good looking, quite the opposite, fucking hell even her court defence lawyer/interpreter woman looks easily better than freaking Corby  yuck...

Heck if she sat silently during the whole trial including the sentencing with a bolt straight upright posture, stone cold, poker face, showing no emotion, no crying or pleading or visible displeasure at all, most people wouldn't give a hoot about her

whos cares if she is pretty or not?
the media? does make it easier to sell newspapers, i suppose the fact they make her sound totally innocent and launch campaigns for support might possibly lead people to believe she's innocent, and the so loved aussie underdog?

and people find her appealing, it's always something people will look at

People are talking about it because she got such intense media coverage. It happened at a time when Australia is obviously trying to strengthen ties with the Indonesian government. But its not whether she is guilty or innocent that people should be concerned about, it's the fact that her defence was jeprodised by the fact that the airport made mistakes and that she didn't have sufficient representation. Also I think what people are most outraged about is that she has been convicted on evidence which would not be deemed sufficient in most countries, she has not been proven guilty beyond reasonable doubt and people are outraged by the fact that in most countries it is possible for someone who has committed rape and murder to receive a much lighter sentence than 20 years behind bars!
