Ok...ANU is ranked as Australia's best uni, higher than the University of Melbourne, USYD and UNSW etc. But why does it have a lower UAI cut-off than all those universities?

Shouldn't the theory be that the higher the UAI cut-off the better the university, as it would have candidates of higher standards?

The UAI cutoff is pushed higher up when there is more demand for places, more people want the lifestyle in the big cities- Canberra isn't exactly known for its nightlife... I like Canberra though, I've lived there.

ANU is renown for its postgrad work.. with the most number of places for PhD's and monies..

rankings are usually about post grad work.. and lik 1/5 undergrad..

as the UAI is a measure of undergrad entry.. its why it the UAI's are lower.. even tho ANU has lots of resources.

No one wants to see John Howard's swaying butt as he runs when they wake up in the morning.

UAI is based on supply and demand.

Even though its a good uni, most people dont want to go live in canberra, so the demand for places is lower than places like usyd, unsw etc

unsw cut off marks are gettin owned by USYD even in courses where UNSW is better than USYD so UAI doesnt really show anything about quality

You're more likely to see that in Sydney than Canberra. Not even the politicians like to live there.
