Also, how "difficult" are they compared to regular subjects?

Some degrees force you to do the more advanced subjects over normal subjects, but honestly it would be better to do a normal subject and get a better mark in it then to fail or do bad in the advanced subject

You are in year 12? Why is this so important?

The unit websites for each subject don't tell you if they scale better or anything like that

They scale up only because there is a quota of how many people need to pass so they need to be normalized. Advanced units are for those interested in the subject and want a challenge but this isn't the hsc where u get a better gpa by doing harder subjects.

not necessarily. some uni's don't give a rat's ass if 60% fail, your mark is just your raw mark in all assessment items.

some unis structure their honours level so it's just the normal level plus some advanced stuff. if you fail the honours level and pass the normal level i believe you can change it so it looks like you've never done the honours level.

they are not always normalised like jas said.

if the class does poorly the lectuerer has to justify the reasoning why they did so well. the same goes for a class which does extremely well. there has to be justifications and people will have to be failed; similarly people will have to be passed if justifications are not made.
