I didn't find it hard, but it isn't as easy as you think if it's done properly....not to say those who found it easy didn't do it properly. It's not just about writing the story you've always wanted to write, it's not just the writing actually. Obviously it doesn't take a year to write around 6000 words in total. A lot of the time you do have has to be spent actually researching. Researching not only the concept or subject of your major work but also its form. Investigation into form is a big thing and if you don't show evidence of looking into it, it won't do you any favours. I did a critical response...mine was quite complex because it looked at the homun condition through a text (the lord of the rings). Aside from reading and researching the text though I had to look at different style sheets...and decided to write my critical response in accordance with MLA stipulations...MLA just being a style commonly used when writing things relating to the subject of english. If you're doing a critical response and this makes no sense then it's something you should look into.

It is the independence of the whole thing that makes it difficult. We didn't have any classes or anything like that so it was totally up to us to find time away from school...and then of course time in free periods or whatever to go through what we'd come up with. Depending on which subjects you do you may very well find you don't have any spare time to devote to your major work.

I would do the course again...I found it very worthwhile...just make sure you don't just jump into the writing without the research as this is the most important part of the process to some extent. If any up and coming EE2 students have any questions about anything, I, and I'm sure a lot of others, are more than willing to help.

which brings us to the point that the experience gan be greatly enhanced by having a good, rational-minded teacher...i'd recommend that if your allocated ext 2 supervising teacher is a bit on the useless side (not that we'd ever have said that, right jack?) you find some sort of mentor-person, whether another english teacher, or a teacher interested in some aspect of your work, or someone outside of school who can support you, keep you motivated and give you non-contradicting advice on the progress of your work. I lost count of the times i wanted to work on my major but couldn't because i was absolutely seething about the latest completely non-helpful incident with my teacher...and poor jacks had to put up with my venting all year, saint that she is

i guess the difficulty you experience in the subject depends on you. eg. i love writing, so composing the piece wasn't hard, but editing it was heaps hard. especially when you've sliced off so much, you feel like you're mutilating it. by that stage, you've drunk your weight in coffee and haven't slept in 3 nights... so it seems hell hard.
also, it all seems peachy keen now in cushy 4th/1st term and you have months and months till it's due. but wait until you hit april, realise you have only a few months to go and still have the bulk of your piece to compose. say goodbye to sane conversations with your english teacher and your weekends.
but, that said, ee2 was loads of fun. just try to manage your time and keep working on it despite other assessments and commitments and you'll be fine!

awww shucks...I try my best.

Really though anyone who is stressing out now about EE2 for whatever reason justs needs to take the time now to plan ahead. You've got a lot of time to perfect your major works as long as you work steadily away at them. Don't be one of those people, for example, who looks in their journal the night before it's due and realises that they haven't written in it since March. (not that I was one of those people), but there were times when I'd look and be a month behind or so. Luckily our teacher wanted to see it every now and again...this way, I had a night before each of these 'every now and agains', instead of the night before it was due as a final product

A lot of support is available to you...search the internet, find a few e-mail addresses and e-mail some people. Sure they mightn't all help or even reply, but if you e-mail enough someone is bound to. That's what I did and the help given to me by my mentors was invaluable.
