Umm, no.
For starters 600 million people on top of each other would mean you'd have a twoer over 600 000 km tall in which there would be far less gravity from earth at the highest point.
Add to the fact that: "Every action has an equal and opposite reaction" means that the initial push from the jump would force the earth (partially) away from you, and you away from the earth. The gravitational attraction would then attract you back to the earth and also attract the earth back towards you. Thereby meaning that the earth would actually end up right where you left it, approximately (with perhaps very very very very tiny shift outwards if you were jumping towards the sun).
I can't believe no one else realised this, especially you slide rule.
You are sorta correct, but parts are wrong. The conservation of momentum is important here and you are contradicting urself. Yes true that there less gravity at the highest point which would mean when the ppl at the top jump, they have very little effect and have the possibilty of 'flying away' lol. next lets take it simple when i jump the push the earth down, i dont move away because of the earth gravitational field. remember the gravity is concerned with mass and distance, so 600000 people isnt much, especially individuals. now lets take it bigger if everyone jobs (on top of each other) the top ppl will feel the effect of the 'every reaction has its opposed reaction' because of the reduce gravity and by conservation of momentum they will literally fly away, the bottom people if tey have sufficient force will move the earth a fractiona, because when they jump gravity pulls them down, and cause a force to act on the earth, earth moves down, and the people move with it due to gravity.
but physics is dodgy! wats the esperiment who was it they could lift the earth with long beam, by resting on the moon, it is possible but is it really possible?
