u can still do IT at ur school...

for IT, u do stuff like microsoft word and other shit and after complete the topic, u get a certificate saying so, this certificate is recognised by TAFE(i think)...

When you finish ITV you get a Level II Cert in Information Technology. This means if you choose to go to Tafe to continue your Cert and maybe get a Level IV or Diploma, you basically just continute on (i.e. you don't need to redo the modules you have already done).

IPT is more oriented towards information processing (hence IPT). It's more concerned with the meaning of information, methods in which it can be processed, analysed etc. Some of the content between ITV and IPT are similar. However ITV is Vocational Education and is somewhat aimed towards workplace learning - hence the work placement and supposed more practical competencies. You could compare the Level II to a job as entry level help desk really.

this is kinda apattern
ITV is easiest computing course
IPT is second easiest
SDD obviously hardest

u see if u do sdd, it helps u a bit out in IPT

if u do IPT it will help u out in ITV

obviously if u do IPT and SDD, ITV is suppose to assumed knowledge for you anyways

SDD is very good subject, well i like it so yeah, really depends if your into that type of stuff. but remember don't fall into the trap of thinking its going to be programming games and stuff like people in my class thought.
It's like about 85% theory and 15% practical and the practical would prolly just be ur major project and maybe if ur lucky ur teacher will take some time out and teach u a desired programming language they specialise in. =0) but yeah if u are interested in the subject, u will get good marks. Just put the hard yards in my friend.

Yeah, I'm interested and I will do it but I know for a fact there is a bit more Practical work than you have experienced at my school from what I've seen, but then again, theory too...:)

you do learn alot of skill based practical uses of computers such as knowing how to pull apart a computer. It is nationally recognised modules and you can go on to further study at TAFE and have recognition of prior learning. Which means that you could take months of you study time. Plus it can be cheaper than going to UNI

IT i think is the best out of SDD and ITP, though i dont do IPT but one of my mates does, and he said he would have rathered do SDD. Basicaly all he did over the 2 years was type notes on everything. IPT may as well be called yr 11 and 12 computing studies, because thats about all it is. ITV is harder than IPT but alot better because it is actualy interesting and the skills you gain can be put to a practical use. Because I did ITV and also ITV Extention at TAFE, i run a personal web server and also help run an IRC network and have gained all the skills from the people who i have met in these corses and the teachers I have had.
in short ITV is the better one, and SDD is hard and booring.

SDD is pretty hard, and in both SDD and ITV i reckon you learn a fair bit of useless information, but ITV is really usefull if your not going to Uni and just want to go straight out into the workplace. It looks good on your resmue, especially if your going for a IT job.

Not so true, it's dependent on what type of person you are, for example for me i'm very computer savvy, but when it comes to IT's communication memos, letters etc, at the last question thats where i lose my marks on, people whos good with these work place documents and good with creating memos letters etc, would find ITV good, SDD is rather for people who want to know the basis of programming and wants to know the stages in the development process. I would say IPT and SDD is the most Computer based courses, and ITV is more so a course blended with using software and communication levels.

I think all the computer courses are usefull (i do SDD, IPT and ITV), but it's a pity SDD has turned into such a language based course, ie "What are the social and ethial issues in...". At least language stuff in ITV is sorta relavent...

i think that IT is half basic skills and half the official technicalities around working in IT.. such as the letters/memos/OHS/logs etc.
For example. How many of us clean our computers regularly? i know i dont. only wen i really need it (i.e keys sticky, or case 1/2 full of dust :p)

IT is good if you can go at your own pace. Its easy (in the books) for most people, and gives a certificate as proof you can do the stuff that other people have no proof of.. even tho they probly be able to. The exams suk. Im always goin too far into their ambiguous questions (e.g "A computer has a virus. How do you fix it?" what? you cant write a single way and b efficient, unless u always reformat)

The SDD course is goodo. I think its good because it gos a step into what i dont know, and what i want to know. Im into the development of anything on computers.. so obviously its good.

IPT is the biggest computer based course at our school.
I kno 1 guy well who is doin it.. he hates it.
It is too basic (he also does IT) but in IPT they move much much slower (we r fair free in IT) ..oh.. and the teach is clueless...

I think its a personal taste. Id personally chose IT and SDD.. luv both of em. maybe choose IPT too... if there was nothin else i wanted to do (i did art instead :p)

to be honest - i did IT for 2 years, and i didnt learn sh*t - its prob cause i do ipt - and IT is basically all prac work - how to clean comps using word, connecting peripherals blah blah blah

its not hard, but it was a waste of time imo - but i rather be doing something then having a 'study period' which turns into a social gathering... plus you get a certificate in the end for practially doing NOTHING - so its god - its worth doing if you want it and ur willing to give up you 'study time'

plus workplacement - that was excellent for me! i love it! meeting new people and going to kool places... i went to uts and i met my dude there!

so yeah - anything can happen with IT...

IT in every aspect had 0 studies, didn't learn one bit, the only part of IT i suck at is the memos and letters just all that stupid communications aspect, that's why i regret not choosing IPT instead
