Im wondering what sort of jobs are available to uni law students
especially students doing more reputable law courses such as at UNSW or Usyd

if you're newbie (year 1) then probably nothing but volunteer jobs at community legal centre...

if you're older, then probably minor secretarial work etc at a smallish firm.

A handful of firms (even large ones) take 2nd + yrs students for cadetships, voluntary work and vacation work. (yes, that means the three months we have in summer).

lol

Part-time work in small law practices might be available.. but clerkships in firms etc are usually given to 4th and 5th year students. If you know people you might get a position earlier, but basically community legal centres are a good way to go... I'm looking into that atm

wow its that specialised?
so they wont even hire you as a intern / lunch buyer for peanuts when ur first year?

That's where volunteer work comes into play...if you stay with them long enough you might get something once you hit 4th yr...:)
