I have been doing lots of past papers and can only seem to get about 67-70%. It's a big improvement for me, but I know its not very good. Would this moderate to a band 5?

Probably, but it also depends on other factors like how well everyone else does.

A high band 5 for 68%? Or a high band 5 for 80%

I just want to get 80+.

70% should land you somewhere in band 5. But don't count on it though. :p It varies.

i doubt it would moderate up that much. just get 80 then you wont have to worry about getting a band 5

last year the test was really hard, i know a guy who pretty much reckons he failed but he managed to scaled up to 87.

So yes, it relies heavily on a number of factors ie the state, last year's results and the actual test.

i tend to agree with Bob, a mark of 70 is unlikely to be pushed 10 marks higher int0o a band 5, thats a lot of marks and people who u have passed

mid to high 70's is a likely band 5, but high 60 to low 70's would probably get pushed to high 70's

if u get 80, then u don't have to worry bot band 5

aim at getting 80

You're in year 11...did you do a 2U math exam last year?

I was looking at some of the threads about moderating and they said a mark of approx 75-78% will go to a band 6.

He didn't, but I did :)

Hmm, a band 5 mark is harder to guess, band 6 is usually mid 90s/120 raw mark, so possibly around the mid-high 70s might get you into a band 5 mark, but you should be aiming around 80+/120 to have a more probable chance of getting a band 5 mark.

I don't get all this scaling stuff... the degree of scaling that you guys are talking about seems so ridiculous to me!

It's basically suggesting that EVERYONE at my school will get at least band 5 and 60% will get band 6.

I personally would not expect a band 6 unless I got 90%. With my approximate mark of 75 - 82% I'm not expecting any better than a band 5 :S.
