... They can patent that i they like.

It isn't really patenting the double click.

It is more patenting multiple ways to launch an application. ie. if you click + hold, the application will launch one way and if you double click it will launch another way.

This is quite original.

What's the big deal? You're company designs a unique feature, of course you patent it, they also patended the message typing alert, on MSN, which shows when a user is typing a message.

It does cost hundreds of thousands of dollars for a US patent.... so only worthy things will be patented.

There are also rules on what can and cannot be patented.

Patents can usually be easily avoided by allowing for 'slight' alterations in the original product. :p

immpossible... aMsn (which is open source) has that feature...

There are other different ways to notify the user that someone is typing a message.

I was actually wondering why other chat programs didn't have the feature.
