Its a share game, however I find it a little dodgy. How can one guy go from having $250k in the morning, to $450k 4 hours later? And how can people buy shares at prices that the market never traded at? I.e. the top guy buying Telstra at $3.00 ?

Heaps of people are buying stuff at prices the market never traded at. Something is so wrong...

Yeh the website is really slow, and it says you can short sell, however I try to sell shares that I dont own (short sell), and it doesnt let me ?

Edit: lol what a crap competition, my portfolio just got reset to zero!

Is this like the ASX Share trading games? I remember they were quite regulated but also quite decent to play. The competition in the adults games was tough!

How many alternatives to this are there? I get the impression they're reasonably common, but on the odd occaison I've made very brief searches for them, they're hard to find, or not working.

From there, are there many geared toward the average/non financial person? -- in some ways there's a fair bit of teminology (and/or theories, which is actually the direction I'm thinking) which could be taught rather practically... suddenly it's a 'fun' piece of educational software...

Any thoughts? (And, if negative answers to the above, anyone with the financial background interested in starting one with me? ;))

Hows everyone going with this game?
I'm in negatives :)))))

email:

Hi again, and well done making it though Week 2 of the JPMorgan Portfolio
Competition.

This week saw the ASX climb initially, then take a dive on Thursday before
partially recovering before the weekend.

TradingPlaces executed over 6,500 trades this week, with a total market
value of over $300,000,000.

Despite this, there is still no clear leader after two weeks of trade in the
competition!

'Kchow007*' sits on top of the rankings with an equity value of $216,600,
followed by 'n00bmasta', who leads a pack of 50 students within $10,000 of
first place.

Two of the best performing ASX300 stocks for this week were Geodynamics
(GDY) and Healthscope (HSP), which jumped 23% and 13% respectively.
Healthscope almost doubled its annual profit on a year ago, while
Geodynamics hinted at the possibility of being in line for a Federal
Government grant.

Congratulations Peter Gress from UNSW, who was the first to correctly guess
Minara Resources (MRE) as last weeks mystery stock. Your $25 cheque is in
the mail!

About 20 people successfully picked last weeks company, so today's clues are
more cryptic.

Again there is a $25 prize for the first person to correctly guess which
company these clues pertain to...

1/ Reverend William Gregor
2/ Lutjanidae
3/ 2648

Good luck and Good trading in Week 3 everyone! Will we see a clear leader by
next Friday?

The TradingPlaces Team

P.S.
Did you know that you can watch what other students are buying and selling?
Simply click on the 'Rankings' tab, then select the orange 'P' icon next to
the users name to see what stocks they are holding.
It's a great way to keep an eye on what your competition is doing!

Also, wtf clues are that

It's pretty slow when I want to trade, so I refrain from trading much.

For those clues, they arn't that hard to decipher. I e-mailed them with a company that matches 2.5/3 of the clues (I'm a bit unsure of the last one).

What company did you send?
Reverend William Gregor discovered the element titanium (source: internet) since no companies are called Titanium Resourc or anything like that, I'm thinking a mining co. that specialises in titanium?:S
Lutjanidae is the fish snapper (google search) and no idea on the last one.
