Because I do, but I can not IM people on my buddy list & I can not add people.

I have yahoo, except i don't use it much. I haven't had any problems before....maybe because i use AOL ISP. LoLz

I don't like ICQ, it's too 'clunky'. MSN is cleaner.

NO and NEVER to all questions (except the first one haha)
Did it use to work or are you saying you dont know how to message people?

To message: double click on the contact... (or right click and send instant message)
To add ppl: there should be an "Add" icon.... at the top in version 6.. forgot where it was in previous versions.
It always works for me. Only bad thing is that its timeout is longer than MSN, so if the other person is disconnected (eg dialup disconnects suddenly) he/she still appears as online for a long time. and in rare cases a currently online person is not listed as online.
but it has offline message feature!!

No, it has never worked for me, & now yahoo mail doesn't even work !!!

Ok, it opens up the friends list, but I've added people to it & it always shows up empty, so therefore I can't IM people!!!

this is.. really.. weird
try uninstalling and reinstalling the latest version (go to http://messenger.yahoo.com).

with the mail.. this even more weird...
sometimes it doesnt work but it should work again the next hour or the next day at the worst
