Most students overlook english, and see it as a tedious chore. However, it is a major component of our education in all subjects and that just may be the reason why English is compulsory.The question of whether we would take English if it were optional to elect was asked in my Advanced class. Interestingly, about half the class said they would not elect it, and this class was the 'top' class for our year (the cut off from year 10 English was 85). Shows how unpopular the subject could potentially be if it were made optional!
