Hi,
Ive been filling out my year 11 subject selection forms and i was a little confused about the units. With maths for example there is 2 unit courses such as general and advance and there are 1 unit courses, such as extension 1 and extension 2. If i were to pick extension 1 would that mean i have 1 unit for the entire maths course? Or is the 1 unit added onto advanced making it 3 units?

Right now i am at 10 units, my choices are extention 1 maths, 2 unit maths and add a subject and 2 unit maths and staying at 12 units. What would you say is my best option?

pick up extension 1 maths and if you dont like it or it is too much, then drop it.

Personally I coped fine with 13 units during year 11 and I dropped Biology in year 12 and so am doing the HSC with 11 now.

I say don't worry about the units and do whatever subjects you enjoy most.

Do as many subjects as possible and drop some if the workload is too high.

*Always pick the highest form of maths you are tossing up between so you don't regret pushing yourself to the higher level as you can always drop down, but not go up.

*Having more than 12 units in yr 11 means greater dropping/customization options later down the line.

Okay, quick note. 2 unit maths is a two unit course. Ext Maths is a ONE unit course that must be taken with the 2 unit course. So, effectively you are doing 3 units of maths, however only one of them is extension and the other two are regular mathematics. When you are filling out your selection sheet make sure you check ext & 2 unit :)
