hey my teacher today told me that ur year 11 assesment mark counts for like 10% or something for the hsc today and im like wtf and he said they generally dont tell ppl coz it creates confusion and since it is only worth 10 per cent even if u only get 50/100 u can still get 95/100 in year 12
has anyone else heard of this?

This is ENTIRELY untrue.

Don't believe your teacher, he/she probably is saying that to scare you into studying hard for year 11. (Which you should do anyway)

If he say's yes, then he is lying..

I'm sure nothing from year 11 counts.

You don't even receive a list of marks for your subjects in year 11. If out of a blue moon, you did receive official year 11 marks from school, it would mean they'd have to be moderated to ensure fairness throughout the state. And there is no standard that can do that for year 11.

10% MAY be assesed in the hsc for sum subjects. eg. legal studies. but that is all. maybe that is where 'the confusion' lies?

Perhaps he means that 10% of what you learn in the prelim could be assesed in the HSC. I know that prelim maths is assesed in the HSC. I dont know about other subjects

Year 11 Marks doesn't count.

BUT I heard from Laz that Year 10 School Certificate Marks actually plays a part in your UAI. As demonstrated in the number of people getting 100 each year.
For example, in 2002, there are 22 people getting a UAI of 100. In 2003, there are only 21, however, with increase number of candidates in 2003, there SHOULD have been more people getting 100. But this is clearly not the case. ans Laz suspect that the School certificate marks have something to do with it.

but didnt the aggregate mark needed to get 100uai rise between the two years/

so maybe there arent 22+ people in nsw that are smart enough to get that aggregate :S maybe it would be a better measure to find out how many people got above the 480 or wateva aggregate was and then and then see how many people "got" 100UAI

just a htought

No, the aggregate marks don't rise. They take the top 0.0025% students in the states or somewhere around that figure to get 100. So if 400/500 is the top aggregate for a particular year, the top 0.0025 will still get a UAI of 100. UAI is a rank, not a bench mark.

That will ALWAYS be people getting 100, regardless of what their aggregates are.

well, that's not how they do it.

Slap your teacher for me!! Cause him/her is an idiot, but remember not to forget most of the skills that you learnt in yr11 , they come in handy, remembering most of the important content helps too!!
