Hey guys, this is my first post on BoS and I'm a year 10 student going into 11. Next year I'm changing to a different school that is going to take me forever to travel to (almost an hour just to get there) and I absolute despise the thought of it but regardless of that I want to go because it is academically better than my current school by atleast 500 ranksish? But the real reason of this is that I want to change schools again next year for year 12. I'm not worried about having social difficulties and trying to make friends because I do realise that I'm going to be a social outcast if I get in. I really want to get into a good school hopefully with a good solid rank like Girraween or Baulkhaum Hills but in reality I know that there is a very slim chance that I'll get accepted as people rarely ever leave schools in year 11 and all I wanted to know was
a) What good schools accept people into year 12?
b) What are the chance of me getting in?

I'm academically a smart student, I play sport and regularly participate in extra curricular activities such as Clean Up Australia Day. If I can manage to get an outstanding half yearly report next year with enough supporting documents, do you guys realistically think that I may have a chance of getting into a school Like Girra or Baulkho? I did the girra test this year and I came within the top 10% for Mathematics and Reading Comprehension but my Written Comprehension was unfortunately not as desirable as I wanted it to be and it ruined my chances for this year :L

Thank you guys for taking your time and reading this and I really do hope to hear from you guys :)

Since your school is already so much more better than your current, why change again? you need to realise that your HSC results will be determined by your rank-so isn't it better to get a really good rank in your current school rather than try to get to a very selective school-where you will inevitably need time adjusting-no matter whether you worry about social difficulties or not-compound with the very high demands of the HSC course, coupled with the fact you need to again improve your rank in an unfamiliar cohort-I think changing schools again after your year 11 course will be more detrimental to your HSC results than it does you good...

I think you have to realise that selective schools usually don't admit people into year 12, and I think by now, you would also have realised, that a lot of the people who try to get into selective schools are very smart academically as well as do a lot of extracurricular activities, so although you are a very brilliant student, you need to realise the people you are competing against is also very brilliant as well...

I know one person who got accepted into one of the top 3 selective schools in year 12-but that was a result of his exceptional performance in mathematical abilities-so I am talking about somewhere near the Olympiad levels- and his principal wrote a letter of recommendation-which helped him to get in... to be genuinely honest, I don't think the chances of you getting in or indeed, I don't see the need for you to must get into the top selective schools-as very high, unless you can get a letter of recommendation from your principal and you show some exceptional talent in one or more subject areas through your participation in extra-curricular competitions... but regardless I wish you well in your future endeavours and I hope you will enjoy your new school as well as do brilliantly for your preliminary and HSC- I have to praise you on the fact you are a person who plans very far ahead, which is a good thing-all the best:)

congratulations on the brilliant selective school tests results, by the way:)

An hours travelling each way isn't too bad... I do a hour & half in the morning, same again in the arvo - in a bus. You just have to learn how to utilise the time - try reading textbooks in advance of classes, maybe a bit of maths - as long as its legible! Can also use it for sleeping if your dead tired. Yes, its a limitation, but its good discipline & hones your time management skills!
