I would really recommend you not do song lyrics. Particularly if it's going to be the latest rap or pop song.

Don't do it mate, it's just shit...

Songs usually have very little analytical meaning- they kind of just rhyme.

Teachers don't understand.

And it's shit.

I used song lyrics in my exam (our focus area was Obsession, and I used Bliss by Muse. Check it out.) and got full marks on that section; its easy enough to do as long as you can justify your topic; a change of perspective; from your lyrics. I'll go look in my music file for a song to suit; hope you like alternative.

But for god's sake dont use pop songs. Shallow shite.

I'll get back to you..

The school for one of our Year 11 assessment tasks used a song. It was the yellow taxi one.

I think what he means is that unless the school is specifically asking for a song to be used, don't use it unless you have a thorough background in music and a song's musicology etc. (and most certainly do a pop/rap song that has recently been in Top 40).

What does it exactly mean by a change in perspective? Does it mean the lyrics change perspective during the song (e.g. love to hate)?

You can use any text just as long as it relates to the text your studying at school.
