Yeah, the teachers put in HEAPS of effort. They're SO nice. Plus our year was really small (less than 30 students! XD Chem class = 3, Maths class = 4 XD) and so the teacher's could concentrate their efforts on each student, which was awesome! It's just the students who don't put much effort... -_- None of the kids tried really hard for the HSC year...which made me not wanna try that hard either *sigh* I guess sometimes a bit of competition is good...

OMG! I had really bad marks last year. I mean REALLY bad marks but I got first in all of my classes for the half yearly's and the finals. And I ended up getting the highest HSC mark in the school....which made me feel like crud because I didn't try that hard >_< It was so embarrassing at presentation night. >_<

BUT now I've learnt my lesson: To succeed wholly in one's goals, one must put in a GREAT deal of effort....or one feels like crud when one achieves goals without putting much effort! -_-
well my school is the same- no one really tried for the HSC. IF ppl wanted 2 go 2 uni, they only needed like 60 uai. (newcastle uni has REALLY low uais compared 2 sydney lol).

my teachers were nice too & the classes small (7 or so ppl) but it is hard when no one actuallly wants 2 do well lol probly why my school was ranked in the 540s in the state lol :)

LOL I didn't even bother checking the ranking of my school! XD Only I think about six people wanted to go to Uni. All of them are taking a gap year except me and perhaps one of my friends... Most of them wanted to get a UAI of around 75.

LOL I'm glad there are others with a similar situation to mine! ^^ <-- I don't feel so nigel-ated that way! XD

and is it true that we are not allowed to open up new pharmacies, and the only way to own one is to buy one off someone else?quote]

Unfortunately my friend this statement is true. My cousin is a pharmicist and told me opening up a new pharmacy has been restricted due to the number of pharmacys available. There is still a posibility of opening up, although; there are clear laws as to how far you have to be from your nearest pharmicist.

However, pharmacies are constantly being sold around me. Yes the price of the key can be very expensive (500k+) but sure, the investment is worthwhile.

Even pharmicists who work at (and don't own) a pharmacy get paid exceptionally well ($60 per hour from what I hear)

As for your answer, don't believe anyone out there. With a degree in pharmacy, you sure to have fullfilling and rewarding career opportunities in the future.

Good luck.

Gee are u sure about $60/hour? Maybe on a weekend?
Yeh I agreed being a pharmacist is a very steady & rewarding career. Unfortunately, most ppl nowadays want to make a lot of fast money. They also want to do more " Glamorous " jobs like flying around the world, dress in desingner outfits etc. Being a pharmacist, especially retail pharmacist, you do not have that sort of chance. You are more than likely wearing a white coat giving advice to old ladies. Ha ha

I spoke to a relative who is a pharmacist and he says that there are restrictions as to how many pharmacy there can be in an area. Although if you want to start new, you might have to pay like double.
Rural areas is the place if you want to make lots of money and there is less competition but i guess people dont want to live away from the city.
community pharmacist job prospect isnt looking so good as there are way more graduates now and i think it will be hard to find a job in the city or somewhere close to you.

I'm interested in starting off in Hospital Pharmacy as soon as I graduate (for my pre-registration period) . I want to experience that environment.

too many pharmaicist, aswell as lots of the owners of pharmacists are tight areses. wont employ extra pharmacists even if it means they have to work 20 hours a day.

unemplyment rate is at around 6% which is high compared to the national average fo 4.5%

depends which website u look at.

end of day truth is there is excess of pharmacist and pharmacy stores in metro areas. not to mention the growth of the internet pharmacies and the warehouse style pharmacies, then owning a pharmacy and making big $$$ in the future will be harder than ever.

i you want something where you can make big $$$ then do dentistry, low overheads, low work hours and big $$$$

you wouldn't do it for the money.. nice starting wages, but capped at 200k avg for private practice and you'll get bored to tears if you don't enjoy what u do. the high suicide rate raises a few questions too..

Dentistry is far more comfortable than doing medicine.
employment rate is practically 100%, its a relaxing lifestyle and good income.
anything that is 100K+ is already an awful, i dont understand why someone would want to be any greedier lol
besides, u can always specialise to become an orthodontist to pass that 200K cap

i always thought the sucidal thing was a bad myth???

The myth comes from teh 60's, from American tabloids, theres no current evidence of higher dentistry suicide rates than most over stressful professions.

Suicide myth bites the dust - Health - www.smh.com.au

My Orthadontist says, it's because of the boredom, access to drugs (analgesic gasses, pain killers, etc), bad breath and so on.
