Death will really get the ball rolling - National - smh.com.au

Wish I was there :(

Dr Philip Nitschke, the Greens senator Bob Brown and a former federal health minister, Professor Peter Baume, will argue the proposition against another former federal health minister, Tony Abbott, the Jesuit scholar Father Frank Brennan and the palliative care specialist Dr Maria Cigolini, in front of a sell-out crowd of 1200.

EDIT: Will tune into ABC2, definitely.

Tightly regulated euthanasia:
Pros:
Good for the terminally ill or suffering elderly
Good for society (frees up stored wealth, relaxes burden on welfare systems and hospitals)

Cons:
IT'S MURDER!!! ATHEIST BABY EATERS WANT TO KILL OUR OLD FOLKS TOO! WE MUST STOP THEM OR GOD WILL SEND US TO HELL FOREVER!!!!!!!

am i rite or am I missing something?

This isn't on my ABC2 communist broadcasting.

Why not?

EDIT: Oh, it's broadcast after the fact.

Who are you to define the 'good' in such terms? How can you say with certainty that ending your own life is a better outcome than pain? How can you begin to justify euthanasia on the basis of lowered costs?

I'm not. Notions of good already exist in both philosophy and law. Most people (except sadists and masochists) accept that unnecessary pain is bad.

How can you say with certainty that ending your own life is a better outcome than pain?
Pretty easily if I'm terminally ill or in permanent pain above a certain tolerable thershold.

How can you begin to justify euthanasia on the basis of lowered costs?
Easily if it's a secondary justification which depends on a valid primary justification (which was already provided).

Zealot.
