luomo - the present lover

it's really chill/minimal house. and such a great come-down record. his other album 'vocalcity' is also good but probably a little harder to get into (although i prefer it, especially the track 'synkro')

Give us a general range of what to recommend. Are you looking for just mainstream stuff, or 'underground' as well? Uptempo, relaxing, somber? Metal, Jazz, Acoustic?

A starting point would be nice...

sly and the family stone. check out 'there's a riot goin' on' and 'stand'
adding to sly and family stone music:

everybody is a star (sampled in 'star' by the roots)

if you want me to stay (one of their best songs imo, the scene where this plays in 'dead presidents' is just so fucking cool)

poet

underdog

thank you for talkin' to me africa

I want to take you higher

dance to the music (you'll recognise this one)

I get high on you

----------------------------

now, check out kool & the gang, the following songs:

soul vibrations (samples in joe budden's 'pump it up')

wild & peaceful (their best song - perfection)

too hot

jungle boogie (everyone knows this)

get down on it (everyone knows this too)

-----------------------

then check out some 'venetian snares' for something completely fucking different from the above two acts:

circle pit
my crutch
poo yourself jason
twelve

Preferably underground.
  • hip hop
  • world music
  • indie pop
  • ska
  • hardcore
