At the moment I have my half-yearly exams on for the HSC. My school is trialing a new method where you go to your exam (if you have it on that day) then when you've finished you go to your normal periods, for example I have IPT 9:30 - 11:00 on a Thursday, after it's finished I will continue my normal periods as I would usually.
The teachers say that they're trying this, because many schools have complained that the half-yearly exams take up too much time away from the syllabus and with this new system they hope to encounter it.
This is awkward, because it does become a hassle completing HOMEWORK and ASSESSMENT tasks during the half-yearlys. At the moment I have an Ancient History assessment task due during my exams.

Since it's a trial, why not trial it on year 11?
&
Is it fair to put students under more pressure of doing multiple tasks all at once?

Please comment.
Thanks !

That is unbelievably harsh!!!! do not DO homework or an assignment during the exams as the exams are worth something and will give u a clear indiciation on how you're going.

They shouldnt even try it out on year 11s....in my view.

I think all the Year 12s in my school have to do that also. But their Half Yearly exams are in the last week of the term so they don't have to worry about assignment.

I do hope that you're not planning on going into uni, TAFE or employment post HSC. You have to learn to deal with this sort of stuff, yes you're expected to complete multiple tasks and manage your time. It's the same outside of school.

Hell, you think tests and homework are bad? How about 2 assignments (1x 15% and 1x30%) due during a practicum week (ie going to school and teaching)? Maybe I should bitch and moan on an internet forum about how hard my life is? Having organise lessons, lesson plans AND STILL DO HOMEWORK AND ASSIGNMENTS

Oh nose :(

Because the constraints apply to year 12 more so than year 11. Personally, I think it's a great idea, as teachers aren't losing 1-3 (depends on your school) weeks of teaching time due to mid-course exams and kids not being around at any other stage for that period of time. To me (and I'm sure that you'll agree) getting it all done before yearlies (or worse, before the HSC) trumps having to cram heaps of syllabus material in weeks and days before your finals, or not finishing the course in time.

Life isn't fair. Deal with it. Are you going to walk into your employment and say "It's not fair to expect more than 2 things from me at one time" and expect to be treated with anything but complete disrespect?

Yeah, sorry. But assignments are worth "something" too, and in instances can be worth more than the half-yearlies are worth.
Hey

by the way...they cant give exams AND COUNTED ASSESSMENTS of the SAME SUBJECTS AT THE SAME TIME...so it has to be assignments and HW. THAT DO NOT COUNT FOR ANYTHING ...so i stick with " DO NOT DO THE ASSIGNMENTS OR HW"

As I've said before .. mid-yr, trial exams etc ... get rid of all these. Just have one final exam. I mentioned this to my student's father, a GP, and he too had only the one final exam. The present system is causing a lot of unnecessay stress. It gives lots of people, teachers included, lots of hassle.

Except because theyre trialling this new system theres clearly some exemption to that rule, and thus if they dont the the assessments they're going to get assraped in terms of final internal assessment marks.

If they want to save time, why don't they cram the tests into one week (assuming they're spread over two). I don't agree with what they've done tho, and I'm glad we don't.

well i guess if the assessments are worth valuable marks...do em...

if ur school cant complete the course..that dosn mean YOU cant.
