Welcome fellow students! The time is once again upon us to discuss this years cadetships that will be offered by the Big 4 accounting firms and many mid tier firms aswell. It provides an excellent opportunity for students to combine full time work and study which allows them to gain that extra step needed to succeed in this very competitive enviroment.

If you have any inquiries or questions please feel free to post them in this forum.

As a current cadet i am more then willing to provide any insight or relevent help for anyone interested in applying for a cadetship. I strongly recommend anyone interested in accounting/business to get involved. Please feel free to discuss what cadetships you may be interested in applying for and we can all help eachother to hopefully be successful.

Reach your goals sooner

You can also pm me and I'll get around to everyones questions with reasonable detail.
Good Luck

Can companies progressively call you up for interview?

i.e. can companies call you prior to the application deadline?

How many people are each of the Big 4 taking in this year?

What sort of a UAI (now ATAR) is usually needed?

Do you study at night and work during the day?

Where's all the information about deadlines, applications and whatnot?

Thank you!

There isn't a certain number because quality > quantity.
However, according to their rough estimate:

PwC = app. 40-50
KPMG = app.40
E&Y = app.20-30
Deloitte = app.10-15

Ive been offered to go to the recruitment days for both EY and PWC, problem is they clash. I have no way of getting around this and going to one means that it have to forfeit the other.. what should I do? Who should I go to? Will it matter?

Thanks so much for your help

Trudy
I'd assume PwC would be taking more people so I'd bend that way solely on that.

My impression was that they look for 'quiet' achiever type because they have no desire to grow. I remember 2 years ago they were the only mid-tier firm that shrunk. Like wtf?

go to the chartered accountants associations website, they always have an information evening at the start of each year where all the big4 attend and let you know about their programs and the application processes

do the 2 years of full time work in a cadetship count towards the work experience required for the CA ( 3 years work experience) ?

Yes it does. Originally if you join a firm as a graduate, you need to work for 6 months as a prereq to starting the CA, but if you're a cadet you can start straight away. And you get promoted to senior pretty much within a year, provided you're decent

I heard from a CA rep about a month ago that the 6 month prereq work experience has been waived...
Can someone shed more light on this/confirm this?
