Really? I don't agree with that.

I care about art so it's not a bludge for me. [The practical part, anyway.]

People who don't care can take the bludge option but won't get good marks because the lack of effort will be evident in the final mark.

But it's a great subject, worth the effort, and it's good to have a relief from normal school ><
of course, i mean of all subjs i spent most of my time on it throughout the whole year cos i was so into it
but in terms of just stuvac (which is probs not wat the q was about but since its right now and wat im thinking) of all subjects i will spend least amount of time on art....

prac is furtherst from a bludge u can get (but is so fulfilling and worth it)
theory is more on the bludgie side (obv doesnt mean you cant do no study though)

Shit thing about art though is that even if you do care about it, if you don't have artistic ability you can still do really crap. In the same way others who don't give a fuck about the subject but have awesome artistic ability end up doing great. It's just the way prac based subjects are i suppose.

Art was by far my most time consuming subject throughout year 12. However, once the major work is over art theory isnt THAT hard. Then again, I'm saying this in conparison to subjects like ext english, physics, chem and 3 U math.

The thing about art is, its INCREDIBLY hard to do well in the major work and thats half your final mark. Also, art scales quite badly unless you get a great mark. By great mark i mean 95+.

So for those of you who dont do art and seem to think its a bludge, you might want to try spending 100+ hours on a major work (not including conceptual ideas, carting it fucking everywhere, and firing it). Then see how you feel.

Believe it or not, you dont have to be doing science and math to be good at the HSC. I do these subjects, and art is much more time consuming and draining but intellerctually easier, and more rewarding. SO if people are thinking of doing it DO. Best decicsion I made

:)...sorry that was a bit of a rant hahaha

Theory side of art is a bludge, art major can be EXTREMELY time consuming. I was an idiot and left my BOW a bit too late, basically did the video in 4 or so weeks. It seriously destroyed me mentally and physically, I remember going to school at times being so fatigued and just heard the same song stuck in my head playing over and over in class. If I actually took my time with it I would've done a much better job of the video (I'm a hardass on myself when it comes to criticising my own work =P)

But the feedback blew me away and I'm so glad that I sacrificed so much socialising and slaved over this video instead, now I hope it gets me into artexpress or gets me into the school I want!

Agreed.
It's hardly a bludge when you spend every art lesson, most of your lunches, recesses and free periods, sometimes the double free periods at the end of the day on Wednesdays and Thursdays (when you could have just gone home), weekends and holidays and staying back late at school til 5:00pm almost every Tuesday JUST to work on your body of work.

I don't personally do art, but all my friends who have the Art HSC exam this wed are totally chilled about it and like cbf to study.

Probs like drama, if you can bullshit your way through essays, and enjoy your majorwork, then it'd be a good subject. Also like drama, all my friends who did art were stressing and working late to finish majorworks.

Drama is not a bludge.
Is it the only subject with a group majorwork?
Wouldn't be surprised. Had a girl who just never turned up, never knew her lines, forgot them when we had to perform it for HSC. Jesus Christ.
Funnily enough, this girl also did art AND dt and they were all due around the same time.

i was told by someone who happens to be the dux of a private school that art is a bludge... what does everyone else think?
ha, I'm a dux of a private school and I probably won't even crack 90.

Moving on, I wouldn't say art is a bludge. It actually requires EFFORT to do well (despite what others may say) because you need to present a cohesive and meaningful body of work (which is both conceptually and aesthetically sound) as well as the actual theory exam itself.

Some people cruise through art, taking it because it's 'light' and a bit of fun (hence its label as a 'bludge'), but to actually do well in the subject is a whole other story.

Disagree. Anything and everything is art now. My major work required little to no artistic ability. I can't paint/draw/sculpt/photograph, anything. My MW was entirely logical...and I have high hopes for it.

This is true, but you need to keep in mind that there are still certain guidelines that the markers must follow, even if something is deemed good art in the eyes of the art world it isn't always considered good or even art in the eyes of the HSC syllabus.

Further more, not many people can pull out a conceptual work strong enough to make up for a lack of displayed practical ability. Those who can often do very, very well (and if you turn out to be one of them i applaud you) however conceptual works are often considered deceptively easy and mediocre marks usually follow.

How hard you've worked isn't always a reflection on how hard something is. For some people tying their shoelaces is hard...

everyone thinks art is a bludge because a lot of the time it is actually fun. non-art students walk past the studios and see people painting and singing to the radio while doing their BOW and instantly assume they aren't doing any work. Its a demanding course but its so rewarding when that major work is finally ready to be sent off. best feeling in the world :) :)

you so cannot just learn the art syllabus and get a band 6 just like that

one thing, u have to do a major which it is freaking hard to get over 45/50

then for the exam
if your a good writer then you will be ok, but you still need to learn exactly whta you are talking about in each question

man i hate people who say art is a bludge, if anything is a bludge its drama
but not really
art, drama, society and culture, cafs, its all the same shit, easy as crap

thats cause you did nothing all year, and then decided to shit your pants at the last minute, if you people were smart (which you obviously are not), you would have finished that shit in the christmas holidays, (hell do it in year 11 when other work doesnt really matter that much) and then bludged the rest of the yr, the same goes for all subjects which have major works.

Woah man ok that is a little bit harsh, yes I did say that I was an idiot because my organisational skills suck but you don't have the right to say that I'm not smart. It makes it look like you're saying that I'm going to dramatically fail Year 12 and end up living off the dole

IF they were all easy as crap, I'm assuming you would get band 6 without even trying? :)

But I don't understand why it appears that you havent chosen "any of these crappy subjects" ??

I mean we all like to choose subjects that are easy and that we can ace, right?

Seeing as you don't DO any of these subjects, I would encourage you to kindly shut the fuck up.

For what those subjects lack in study hours, they make up for in major work/PIP preparation. Drama and Art literally sucked the hours out of my day. The holidays before trials were spent 95% at school finishing, retuning and refining my multiple major works. I didn't leave any of this to the last minute, it just requires a whole lot of time and effort- alot more than any non-practical subjects- that you don't seem able to comprehend.

Do you find Advanced English easy? Well a drama essay is similar to an english essay except for the fact that a drama essay asks for about 8 more things, all to be crammed into the same 40 minute timeframe.

I hate people who say that practical subjects are a bludge. Peculiarly it's always those doing the maths/science combination that decide their subject choice is superior.
