To die, to sleep no more. And by a sleep to say we end, the heartache and the thousand natural shocks, That flesh is heir to. Tis a consumation. Devoutly to be wished. To die, to sleep, to sleep, perchance to dream, Ay theres the rub.
Bahaha we get the point, you can quote Hamlet!! School has finished! Personally i wouldnt go to either of those Uni's, but if i were to choose i would go for the one that has the most prestige and the one that is most likely to get you a job in the end.

why wouldn't you personally go to either of those uni's?

unfortunately i dont think the scholarship is enough to cover the cost of the course... pitty..

well then by accepting the scholarship, youd save a hell of a lot of money
i know what option id choose

unless i lived on the north shore and my parents were millionaires and i could mooch off them, expecting them to pay all my uni fees in full, no strings attached.

would you rather graduate one year ealier, get a job and work for one year and earn more money or stay at uni for one more year and do work experience with less money?

less money maybe, but the experience is just as valuable to your resume as the money itself... better employment opportunities, better job, and higher pay in the long run

I think it depends on the about being offered here. if the scholarship is like 10k a year, you should probably go UTS lol.

but unsw facilities and lecturers are pretty good from my experience. I don't know if this applies to engineering but with law, the learning experience at UNSW is just so much better than at UTS. My gf does law at UTS and its just terrible. Lecturers don't give a fuck about feedback after assignments (tell you to read the course outline or 'send them an email' instead) etc,
I've found that at unsw the teachers ALWAYS make time to see you face to face, and provide you with feedback.
And i've posted on another thread how this tutor hitting on students, and if the students doesnt straight out reject him, he gives them HDs for participation.....

But this is just law, so engineering might be MUCH different. so you should ask around i.e. existing students on what its like.

Pick UTS. Your degree won't matter, your marks will.

This is coming from someone who left UTS for UNSW.

Yeah but you can also argue that while the UTS student is in uni doing work experience, the UNSW actually has a job and therefore is gaining the same experience as the UTS student but with more money and same benefits.

If you take a train to central, might as well take another 10-15min bus ride. Also, who cares if UTS is in the city? you go to uni to study not because of what's around it. unsw is pretty much a city in itself anyhow

id say it depends on the uts co-op program. ifs its not absolute crap and you are getting some experience at a good/excellent company + scholarship money, then uts would probably be the way to go

but i would also factor in your plans in 4/5 years. if you want to finish uni and get straight into a job, co-op sets you up fairly nicely for that.

but if you want to do more, perhaps postgrad work here or overseas, id say unsw would be better (ive heard that unsw engineering degrees are recognised overseas, that is you dont have to retrain, while other unis in australia arent recognised. not 100% sure about this though but it could matter if you dont plan to stay in australia)

thats not how it works
there are 2 separate 6 month placements at different firms
once you finish your degree and apply for graduate jobs the UTS kids have an advantage over the UNSW grads.

I never said it's easier to get marks at UTS, fuck me sideways. If you put in effort and have decent marks to show for it you'll get a job, regardless of where you did the degree.

take the $$$. you really think anyone gives a fuck if you went to UNSW or UTS lol they're both not bad and it will mainly depend on your marks (both will take work to get high marks, and it will of course vary in diff subjects i.e its retarded to compare) but at least with UTS you're guaranteed some work experience. who the hell said there was a guaranteed a job at UNSW?? or a high paying one at that

i love how ppl keep saying * is ugly, wtf has that got to do with anything. and why the fuck do u have a sexual attraction towards buildings in the first place.

lifts dont work? firstly, they do. and secondly, theres lots of separate buildings so I don't know what you're talking about. whho the hell needs to use lifts anyway, theres something called escalators or even stairs, maybe u can use them and stop being such a fatarse. well the point is yes uts has technical problems here and there but it happens to all unis and really has no effect on anyone or anything unless you're a super nerd who needs shit to run perfectly 24/7

yes UTS does offer the experience which i thought was very good... but i have spoken to some ppl hu hav sed that the internships were not good at all, ie not much 'engineering' work was done at all... more like photocopying stuff...
id say anything, even photocopying, is very good experience, gets u used to how shit and repetitive work is going to be. not to mention, any work experience is likely to be attractive to your future employers, regardless of what you did there. also you aren't taknig into account ur internship would most likely be at a different firm.. i mean even if u do graduate unsw, you still could get a job where you are photocopying stuff. so dunno why blaming uts for that.

in fact, i wouldnt be too concerned about getting 'good education' as i dont even think what you learn at uni has any or much relevance to what you will actually be doing at work anyways (most things are taught as you go and you are trained for it). going to uni is like reading a book on how to play the guitar for 4 years without actually touching one. you'll probably be disappointed if you go in thinking you'll become an expert engineer, when all uni is its just memorising and cramming useless facts the day before the exam.

$$$ ftw. i also like UTS cause there aren't many hours and you can just bludge and jig all lectures/tuts (nobody cares?). this is really useful if you are an independent learner, i mean hell with all that time off u can even get part time job and get even more experience. from what ive seen, unsw would be more strict. more hours/days and require much more attendence.

@ azamarkumar: why did u leave UTS???

@ Takuto: what do u study at UTS, im just curious...

@LordPc: even at UTS the Eng degrees are recogniseed overseas

@ all the people hu keep talking about jobs n leaving 1 yr later and that: personally i dont see much problem leaving uni a yr later... also if u wanna b reeli picky u culd argue that leaving UTS a yr later with experience is better because wen u come up against the ppl leaving other unis that same, yr they will not hav the experience so u will have advantage [just fyi]..

wheres Uncle when u need him.... id b interested in his opinion...

Other peoples opinions don't matter, just do all the research on the pros and cons of each and make up your own fucking mind.
