tan 45° = 2tan (22.5°) / (1 - tan²22.5°)
1 = 2tan (22.5°) / (1 - tan²22.5°)
then solve the quadratic equation for tan 22.5°

then solve the quadratic equation for tan 22.5°
also, letting u= tan 22.5 makes it look neater. and remember that tan 22.5 is positive so u have to reject the negative answer
