is it true that if someone studies heaps for an exam and sum other does't study at all gets higher marks?
if so ...why?
Well Yr 10 is pretty straightforward so it's quite a laid back year

The problem with a lot of students is that when they learn things at school and don't understand it, they don't ask the teacher or go home and learn it properly for themselves. As a result, they sit through class not understanding what's going on and when it comes to exam time, they have to attempt to teach themselves from scratch. This is obviously a disadvantage for them since all that knowledge obtained from last minute cram study would probably equal to the amount of knowledge a person who understood it in class had.

Also, you need to make sure you continually revise what you learn, especially if you're forgetful!! I don't mean study 10 hours a day, just refresh your mind every now and then on the topics you've studied in class. It will significantly reduce the need to study at the end of the year.

Useful books?
- Excel School Certificate Australian Geography, Civics and Citizenship (Good layout, easy to understand) --> I found this book very handy

A tip for SC English --> HSC English
- It's a good idea to improve on creative writing now, especially if you want to do advanced/standard english for the HSC

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I make it seem like you have to be a total nerd to do well in the SC. Don't freak out about it! It's just an exam they make you sit for no particular reason since it doesn't count towards anything. Even if your school makes a big fuss about it and sets extremely difficult exams (highly doubt it though), just remember the SC is easy. :) Just make sure you are confident with what you've learnt at school, you can't go wrong! Save your stress for the HSC. Stressing now is definitely not worth it.

HAVE A GREAT YEAR!!!!

Plenty of notes on here that you can simply download and read in the morning instead of D.E.A.R.

Im sort of suspecting someone is trolling lol.

But if this is genuine, then yes some people can not study for exams like SC and achieve very good marks, not all people are like this though and some people require more effort to reach the same marks as others. Regardless of which one of these 2 people you are it really isn't worth getting yourself all worked up about the SC as it holds no real significance especially if you are going on to do your HSC, if you really are concerned about going well then I suggest you just apply yourself in class throughout the year and then perhaps do some light study the week before, this alone I believe is sufficient for most people to achieve Band 5/6+ in the exams.

Some people can study A LOT and still not get any band 6s at all, some people can hardly study and can get straight band 6s. This, I believe will change in the HSC because it's quite hard to just 'breeze through the exams' and still gain excellent results.

By accident. Seriously, I pretty much studied the night before every subject and came out with 4 band 6s.

If you really care about your education, stop worring about the SC and start looking over content for your HSC courses or something, the SC counts for crap - as long as you go in and actually complete the exams you're fine.

Well for year 10:
History assessments (for those essay type questions): Write points and memorise them. Result: 99% assessment mark (i screwed up my hy i got 86% D:) 100% exam mark-1st
Geography: Did nothing really. Result: something around high 80s-3rd
Math: Practice questions. Result: high 80s and 1st in the class
Science: A subject I studied for the hardest for trials and etc. Mark: 80s and a mystery rank D:
English: English techniques. Result: roughly around 80s. Rank is unknown D:
PDHPE: LOOOOOL. Zero study and due to consistent exercise I breezed through the Pracs. Result: 95% and 1st LOOOL.

Well looking at it from hindsight, I did nothing D;. I'll try harder and study smarter this year :D

the exams are fairly easy...just make a summary of all the work you do in class and you should be fine...

Yeah I totally agree that there are some people that can study a lot in the SC and not get any band 6's but i'd say most people even those who aren't so naturally smart can still whip out a band 4/5/6 with some effort.

Some people are just naturally talented or not.

You will thank me in two years time.

Is it best to buy any more books like excel study guides
for the sc....or is it better just studying off school textbooks?
School textbooks and your own workbooks should suffice.

School textbooks, notes (in class or your own) and past sc papers and your set. :spin:

It's fine to make notes on all your subjects. I found it helpful in my study for the SC. It's just a good way to refresh.

a friend of mine slept in and missed out on the Computing exam by 30 minutes. still got a band 6.
I did the computing exam in like 20 minutes and got 96%.

Btw read over all of your work books, and then you'll probably get all band sixes.

And about the notes KoolKid59, unless you're leaving in year 10 and you want to get a really high mark, it doesn't matter
