Re: 2 Unit Revising Marathon HSC '10

In July 2001 a couple take out a loan of $800 000 from a bank to buy a house. The bank offers a reducible interest rate at 6% per annum. The couple is to repay the loan in equal fortnightly instalments of $25 000, but does not have to pay any interest for the first seven months, nor make any repayments for the first nine months. In which year and month will the loan be repaid?

Re: 2 Unit Revising Marathon HSC '10

If a(x) and b(x) are even functions, a(-x)=a(x) and b(-x)=b(x)
If c(x) and d(x) are odd functions, c(-x)=-c(x) and d(-x)=-d(x)

(i) Let f(x)=a(x).b(x)
Thus f(-x)=a(-x).b(-x) = a(x).b(x) = f(x)

(ii) Let f(x) = a(x).c(x)
Thus f(-x)=a(-x).c(-x) = a(x).-c(x) = -a(x).c(x) = -f(x)

(iii) Let f(x)=c(x).d(x)
Thus f(-x)=c(-x).d(-x) = -c(x).-d(x) = c(x).d(x) = f(x)

Question: Solve for x: |x - 1| = -5
we're not idiots :p

You'd be surprised ;)
Hey man. I haven't done av in a long time, and simply didn't realise a negative number = no solution. I'm not an idiot. I truly, deeply, sincerely apologise for slipping up once and being human.

hehe... It's supposed to be a 'novice seperator'. Hence why I asked it.

Next Question:

In a complex pulley system, the length of rope L needed for operation and the distance x m from a specific pulley to the centre of the system is defined by:

L=(x2-20x+136)1/2 + (x2+64)1/2

Find the distance x m that the pulley should be from the centre of the system that minimises the length of rope required.

Ok, I'm not sure how to do the question posted above because I don't think we have covered it yet...But if someone is willing to answer my question after the previous one I would really appreciate it.

Find the derivitive of the following equation;

ln

Huh, this question is kinda confusing due to the fact that you're not including interest for the first 7 repayments but then you're including the fact that you're not paying for the first nine months? Isn't that saying you can do this question multiple ways as in:
1. Calculate without interest for 7 months then ignore the 2 months of repaying
2. Do not pay at all for the first 9 months
3. and the list goes on
Your question isn't specific enough? I'm only commenting on this because i like doing harder repayment questions since it is my weaker topic.

Also it could be because i just woke up and misinterpreted the question :p
