Didn't get the external HD, but my internal is 180GB bigger than yours, and I have no practical need for an external HD.
We have about 217615873245612 mice in a box in my dad's study, don't need another one. Besides, I like the in-built mousepad.
Have MS Office 07 at home, dad swiped it from work for free.

Yeah, it's pretty much a brand new model. Only been released for about 6 months or so (I think). Pavilion dv6 1329tx or something.

well this is true for most scenarios i must agree, but there are exceptions. u might want to check out dell's studio xps 16 (the $1998.99 one). it's basically a beast designed to dominate in gaming without having to sell ur body parts. i'll list the specs here:
CPU: intel core i7-720QM (1.6GHz, turbo to maximum of 2.8GHz)
GPU: Radeon 4670 (1GB)
RAM: 6GB 1333Mhz DDR3
Hard drive: 500GB SATA 7200RPM
Battery: 9 cell lithium battery

But overall i must agree with u that if ur into gaming then u should buy a desktop over a laptop since u can upgrade ur components all the time, u can get more insane specs, and the performance to price ratio is much better. also i hate the mini keyboard of the laptop, i just don't feel that it's designed for gaming. but anyways gotta love my new laptop.

Desktops are being faded out I think... unless it's a new user or a hardcore gamer. Most people prefer the laptops.

No way. Asides from the lack of portability, desktops are cheaper, and better in pretty much every way. A decent gaming laptop is ridiculously overpriced, usually in excess of 2k, and they still aren't all that great. With $800-900, I'd probably be able to build a desktop that could match what a laptop of the 2k price range would be able to perform. Desktops are also much more cheaper to fix and are more reliable, and will last longer than their laptop counterparts.

Not everyone needs a laptop; and in that case, desktops are much better bang for the buck, whether you are a gamer or not.

That being said, I'm still out looking for a decent laptop that I can use as a digital audio workstation mmm.

those are some sexy specs, expect next to no portability due to shit battery (yes i know its 9 cell, but 6gigs of ram, a quad core cpu and an awesome gfx card will chew up the battery in no time) and weight (im guessing 5-10kg), an extremely loud fan, and overheating

The XPS 16 is about 3kg, but that's for a 6-cell. All in all, not too bad imo.

When you get that XPS laptop, be sure to tell us the power drain from those 4 cores and 6BG or ram. Hopefully they're been smart enough to implement (like apple/mac have) an in-built software-hardware package which powers down the cores or sticks of ram when they're not in use... this would save you a lot of battery power when just browsing the web or using the computer for general things.

the only major problem i heard with that laptop is the battery life. but i heard dell has already improved it abit. think it should last me 2-3hrs. plus i can just undervolt the laptop and improve the battery life by 15-30mins (with no decrease in performance of course. but definitely i'm not overclocking the laptop).

Overclocking laptops is just a recipe to overheat the whole GPU and cores in it... Your choice though.

i'm not overclocking lol. that's the least i want to do. i'm only undervolting, which reduces the amount of heat produced and increases battery life. anyways i'll let u and the others know how well the batteries go when i test it. i've ordered mine 3 days ago so roughly around 6-9 days left before i get my laptop. another thing i heard is that dell made the laptop such that only when the laptop is connected to an ac source, it unleashes it's full potential. while at other times its performance is restricted so that u get a better battery life. i'm going to do some testing on it and i'll let u guys know when i'm done with my testing

an extremely loud fan

actually, the fan is too silent lol. there is only 1 fan placed inside the laptop and it barely does anything. basically dell decided to make a beast but just before they finished their creation, they decided to add some soft and calm textile to it. most people tend to stress on the heating problem as the bottom of the laptop gets really hot. the reason that the bottom gets really hot is because it's made out of metal (i think it's made out of aluminum). the case itself works like a heat sink and reduces the heat within the laptop. as long as u don't put it on directly ur lap while u use it then everything should be fine. if u do, then ur legs will start sweating but won't really burn u or anything

yeaah ive looked around a fair bit, put a deposit on a HP dv6 2005TX retail $1800 last week at harvey norman then was in JB HIFI today and seen the upgrade dv6 2113 TX for $1497
- intel core i5 2.4 Ghz
- 640 GB HDD
- 16' lcd

alot better specs, plus im getting 140w logitech speakers, carrybag, mouse, microsoft office and 3 year warrenty for $1700.
