Alright so I do G.Maths right and as well as a few other people we put in a great amount of effort to achieve top marks in all areas. This obviously doesn't apply to every student and aside from the top achievers the gap in marks is pretty large..I'm talking from high 90s to low 40s...

How much will this affect us top achievers? Shout out to Makdaddy.

Just in case you guys needed more info:

School rank 2009: ~170
General Math Students: ~70

as long as you stand out from the rest, the lower ranked people won't affect you

But I remember someone going on about the time period after the trials, everyone helps their cohort to achieve the best possible mark, because if people do badly (even the low-ranked people) in the HSC Exams it affects everyone's mark? Is this true?

The final HSC exams determine the range of marks you get for the assessments which translates into your scaled Assessment Mark - so if EVERYONE does well the range will be fairly small, thus making the standard deviation smaller and statistically speaking this means the school is awesome. So yes, it does affect everyone's mark.

For you personally, if you remain in the top percentile in your school the only thing that will determine your final mark is how well you do in the HSC exams. ie. Don't worry if you're at the top of your school, until you get to the actual HSC exams.

If your school average is low, then everyone except the top and bottom person's marks are going to be moderated to reflect that.

Your school shouldnt have any direct effect on your marks (those above me who claim you will be 'moderated downward' due to your school are just wrong)

however you are disadvantaged indirectly - shit school = shit teachers and shit peers
and it's a huge effect
