I'm a simpsons fan, but I've never watched a family guy ep. Is it really as good as people say it is?

Yeh I was exactly the same. A complete die hard simpsons fan and when everyone was telling me that family guy is better than simpsons, I just refused to believe it. But seriously, once you watch a couple of episodes, you realise how good it is.

futurama and south park ftw

Simpsons I like in a sentimental, i loved this when i was a kid way.

Family guy is inconsistent, sometimes funny but pretty lame at other times.

family guy is really weird cause you get some people that like it and some people that dont find it funny at all

so the OP's questions cant really be answered. you just have to watch and find out

They've all got their positives and negatives. Of the lot, Simpsons is probably the most consistent with what they do, though many will argue that the qualities gone downhill since season 10ish. Humour is very sitcom based, where comedy is derrived from situations and characters.

Family Guy is very hit and miss. It's one of those shows where the greater your understanding of pop culture, the greater you chances are of getting the joke. Has a basic grasp of surrealism with its humour, and non-sequitors abound.

South Park tends to be more socially and politically motivated, and more extreme in terms of language, violence, and themes. It terms of comedy, it relies heavily on pop culture parody and satire, and well as juxtaposition.

The thing I hate about family guy is almost every joke is a flashbakc starting with, "You think that's bad, remember that time I.....", "Like that time when Peter.... *verb* *noun* *verb* *insert celebrity*".
Also so many pop culture references from the 1980's.

IMO the funniest butters episode is Jared Has Aides
(phone conversation)
Chris: Do I hear the television? We told you no television while you're grounded!
Cartman: (impersonating Butters) Oh, gee whiz, I'm not, uh, watchin' television, Dad, I'm just layin' around jackin' it.
Chris: Jacking it? Jacking what?
Cartman: (impersonating Butters) Well my hot spicy boner, of course, Dad.
Chris: What?! Are you trying to get yourself into more trouble with that kind of language?!
Cartman: (impersonating Butters) Ah, loosen up, you bloody vaginal belch.
Chris: OH! YOU ARE GONNA GET IT MISTER! YOU JUST WAIT TILL I GET HOME!
Cartman: (impersonating Butters) Bring it on, queerbate.

Family Guy is hilarious if you have a sick sense of humour or like looking at shows which depict american families as stupid. I like it most of the times.
