I checked the 2009 school rankings, My school improved to around 550, still pretty poor.

Reminds me of an article I read today, (Excuse the socialist link)
Socialist Party (Australia) My School website fails students

"Ten years ago a similar list was made public in Australia resulting in many individual students being discriminated against. Based on inaccurate school rankings, many students failed to get into university and TAFE courses while others were denied employment opportunities."

They have apparently banned these rankings, but what about the My School education site the SPA refers to?
Could this lead to discrimination because of poor school results?

Also I wouldn't call 75 an unachievable ATAR to whoever said he had no chance.
Is 75 considered to be above average?

I'm pretty sure the govt didn't ban the ranking of all schools... I heard that you can still post up the top 100 or top 90 or something along those lines.

I believe it's the top 10%, and I think those rankings wernt put together by the government/Board/News Papers, but maybe an individual on bos? not sure, but it was found on bos.

iRuler i so totally agree with ur sig!!
Which part? The time? xD

Be warned, naive people! I was predicted to get 98+ on the 'predict your ATAR' forums, I only got 95.8. If you go to certain consistent selective schools, then yes, accuracy is likely, but anything outside top 100 I'd say is often hard to pick
smahed ya,and my school said 92...and my school is in the top 2000...and that isn't a typo.

They're not predictions, they're goals.
+1

Only a few rare people would be able to reliably predict their ATAR. Most people are just aiming for a certain number :)

English Advaned - 1st
MX1 - 8th
MX2 - 8th
Chemistry - 3rd
Physics - 28th

School Rank: 26

rank after 1st assessment, if i maintain this what would you people who actually know how this shit works estimate my ATAR to be?
Easily 97+ and most likely 98+ unless your school size/subject cohort is really small.

My school rank is 169th, Blackwattle. I think I'm on the average of the school while being top 10 out of ~70 of General Maths and closer to the top in IPT 6 out of 17, you reckon a 75 would be a reasonable prediction?
You've qiuite a good chance but with those subjects of yours i strongly suggest you raise your rank and marks, and if you do as i say you might be surprised with what you get ;)

Man, if predicted this way and following the generalization, it would be difficult for me to get 75+, yet I am aiming for 90+ -________-!
Time will show whether I will prevail D;

Same with me,
I don't want to do the whole 'compare your school to see your mark',
because I am at a sucky >500 public school. I am head of all my classes, so im going to compare myself to school #1.

Hopefully we will defy all odds!
Haha, good for you for aiming for the moon :) I won't compare myself to the #1 school considering that I know what I am capable of :p

Hmm... say I was at a school that was ranked (by previous links) at around 500, would they drag my marks down if I was considerably higher than theirs? For example, if I got around a 90 on everything, while the rest of my class got 75, would the rest of my cohort drag me down? (Read sig for subjects)

Haha... I don't even have a '10th' available for 2 unit at my school. We only have about 7 people. 4 of which are terrible at it. Only 2 people in 3 unit as well.

95+ unless you have a really small 2U class.

They won't drag you down at all if you're ranked 1st, so aim for 1st.

I shall join you in your aim :) We'll prove we can get great ATAR's even in our horrible schools.
