Some UNIs are thought of as higher than others?

e.g. I want to do a Bachelor of Arts- at Sydney UNI it's 84 and at Ourimbah (local) is 68...

It's because of supply and demand. Sydney's a more prestigious uni, therefore it's going to get more students. It needs to be more selective about who it admits. Other uni's have less prestige and sort of have to pick up the rest who didn't go too crash hot. Hence, lower cutoffs.

As said it's mostly supply and demand, however unis can also adjust their cutoffs for other factors like requiring a certain baseline cutoff for all courses, accounting for the effects of bonus points schemes, government funding restrictions and so on.

@ohexploitable: ANU > * :p (yes, yes, research based rankings and all, I know...)
