Nope, he claimed things were better than with a state.

Which is bloody well fair enough given that:
-Somalia's socialist government completely ruined their currency with mass inflation
-Abolished property rights (or at least, ignored them whenever it suited them) making wealth creation/productivity extremely difficult

Which is necessary when you're starting from shit all and the state has poisoned the little water that was in the well in the first place.
Look this is missing the point.

You can't claim that improvements are solely due to a free market economy.

Whether remittances were 'necessary' or not is irrelevant. The fact is that they are PROPPING UP the economy which would otherwise be a dismal failure by itself.

If you're actually trying to trumpet a capitalist economy whose so-called 'successes' are actually due to remittances then LOL.

We are not just talking about the economy of Somalia, we are talking about the quality of life of the people of Somalia.

If the free market makes it easier for people to leave the country, and get remittances safely back to their families, surely they are better off than not having the remittances and starving?

It's far from ideal, but its an IMPROVEMENT.

I'm not. I'm saying that farmers are no longer harassed by agents of the state.
I'm saying their currency is being massively infalted by the state.
and so on.
And only after their state has ended have people been willing to send money back home, much in the way (rational) people don't donate to african nations because they know that the state will end up taking it.

I mean, come on, a poor developing needs remittances to get anywhere, and the only way this has been able to happen is on a free market.

for fucks sake, can you not read?

These remittances would not have been necessary if there had been a free market in the first place.

Another analogy:
Are you overweight and unhealthy[poor standard of living]? Exercise [free makret]will make you healthy!

*government sprains your legs: so you wear leg supports [remittances] so you can exercise*

oh look exercise fails because you can only do it with remittances!

The business cycle has been around for centuries you prole, have a read. The central bank is a relatively recent invention, so there goes your theory.

(And yes the 'government' did 'fuck up' a decade ago, but only because they decreased the amount of financial regulation)

you got to be kidding me right? business cycle been around for centuries? biggest load of BS ever. the reason we call it a business cycle is because there is a large amount of economic growth that is followed by a very sharp decline. pre central banking we had economic contractions caused by 1000's of things from famines, to shortages in supply of resources, to normal investment bubbles. only in the last 100 years have we had cycles not sporadic economic contractions.

secondly no just no, it is the expansion of the money supply that causes modern day world economic collapses

Greens are the way to go for this election I think. Definitely better than Labor and infinitely better than the Liberals. State capitalists of course, but at least they aren't total Nazis.

it's obvious that either labor or liberal will win, the greens will just take up more seats this time round.

whether it's the libs or labor who win i dont know..... i hate tony abbott so i guess i would go with labor.... but if malcolm turnbull was leader of the opp. for the election i wouldnt mind if he got in as much.

Labor has as usual has f***ed our economy and liberal now has to go in and fix everything up again. However Abbott ia just embarassing!!! At least Rudd can articulate in public.

I think our vote is based on the question "Which party will f*** up the economy less?

Hence the shift to "greens".
So frustrating:pain:

START RANT

Quoted from another internet messageboard

My greatest concern in this is the Governments track record, that and the likelihood of replacing one monopoly with another.

And what "track record" are you talking about. Australian Federal Govts have an excellent track record for creating viable Companies that vastly add to the running and comfort of all Australians. Try and divorce yourself from the current blathering of the Opposition and Media about 2 fairly successful financial stimuli and have a look at their "track record" over the past x decades.

I have picked several, some known and some unknown

Commonwealth Serum Laboratories – very successful and privatised in 1994. Formed in 1916 by a Labor govt

QANTAS – very successful and re-privatised from 1995 onwards. Until 1947 it was a privately owned company and was nationalised in 1947 with the Q Board's encouragement by a Labor Govt

Commonwealth Bank formed in 1911 by the Commonwealth Govt which was Labor at that time.

Snowy Mountains Scheme – commenced in 1949 under Ben Chifley Labor

and one that really effects ALL Australians and really irks business the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme, set up in 1948 by Ben Chifley Labor.

Governments of recent years have been more interested in selling the farm than trying to improve it. But that's the way the ideology swings, that pendulum will eventually swing back the other way.

Now, about that "track record"?
Next thing you know the liberals will be selling AUSTRALIA to the USA or china just so that they can say he we got all this extra money to spend.

What are the liberals going to sell next time is the australian government going to have any assets left by the end of it?

Trust me when I say you think its bad now.......its only going to get worse with ANY of the current candidates from Liberal party.

If tony gets elected......you might as well kiss goodbye to any movie above a PG rating.....goodbye to public displays of affection.....

And anyways name one major infrustructure project that the Liberals have invested in the last 30 years.......I seriously cant think of one off the top of my head.........however wait a minute........isnt the Liberals being hypocritical when they say labour is introducing a GREAT NEW TAX..........hold on a second.........what happened in 2000..........the introduction of GST........this was a big new tax which replaced most of the state sale taxes......

Hold a second doesnt that sound somewhat fimilar to the new Mining Tax.......the new mining tax will be replacing the state royalty system.

Here is one thing that is for sure......

Companies control Australia and its people.

Comapnies induce fear into the public to make things go their way.

Is Australia a free country .........F**k NO

Is Australia a Lucky Country ......F**k NO

Is Australia investing in critical infrustructure............F**K NO under Liberals

First thing Howard did when he got into office in 1996 was to cut the HEALTH and EDUCATION budgets............and yet the defence budget has been slowly climbing.

So go right ahead and vote for Liberals because as they have said they will be

- Scrapping the NBN
- Cutting the Education Budget down to size
- Most likely cut the Health Budget down as well

What is the use of continued surplus if there is no investment into future growth?????

I can see Australia 50 years from now being one of the worse countries on earth and being rated effectively a 3rd world country.

If you want to complain about DEBT then go and look at USA.....their current DEBT is somewhere around $10-13 Trillion dollars............which doesnt include their future obligations to the USA people. If you want to know their total debt including their future obligations to the USA people then the total amount is around $60 Trillion Dollars.

Why dont you stick that in your pipe hole and smoke it

Are you really suggesting that the greens will be the party which will least f*** up the economy?

Next thing you know the liberals will be selling AUSTRALIA to the USA or china just so that they can say he we got all this extra money to spend.

But if we tax people enough, on the otehr hand, we (read: the government) will have all the money we'll ever need!

seriously though, what are they selling?

The true injustice is that land has to be sold or 'rented' to mining companies, as if teh governmnet just magically owns all the land in Australia. Gee, what a great concept of property rights.

If tony gets elected......you might as well kiss goodbye to any movie above a PG rating.....goodbye to public displays of affection.....
1. You're fucking nuts if you're being serious about that, especially public displays of affection.
2. It is EXTREMELY rich to say "oh look goodbye PG movies" when rudd wants to have a fucking ISP LEVEL INTERNET FILTER, putting us with the likes of some of the most authoritarian nations on the planet, so don't start shit about censorship you fucking dolt.

1. government shouldn't be involved in infrastructure. If they didn't tax and regulate teh economy so much in the first place they wouldn't need to invest in these projects.
2. So basically your argument against abott is...they're both as bad as each other.
okay??

Companies control Australia and its people.
No the government controls us you fucking moron. Nobody forces you to deal with companies, but the state is a coercive monoply.

Is Australia a free country .........F**k NO
...and the reason is because of the government you seem to have a massive hard on for

Is Australia investing in critical infrustructure............F**K NO under Liberals

??

if you honestly think lentern's post was of any value then you clearly have no fucking clue about my political views
I'll concede I wasn't thinking clearly at the time and his post was somewhat ambiguous as to exactly who he was referring to by liberals, whether australian liberals or more generally liberals. I understand your views however, and I disagree with them.
