kinda confused which one is better :/ 6500 has 3g, but the memory card reader is basically dead. 5233 uses something else like EDGE. I will only use the ph for texting and calls etc. the 5233 has a 2mp pixel cam, where as the slide has 3.2mp and led flash. :S is the touchscreen worth it?

is 3g necessary.

anyone had any experiences with these phones?

Also, 528MHz CPU and 256MB RAM (I think), not too flash but should do fine powering a QVGA display.

And texting will be faster than either of the ones you've mentioned if you download the Swype app. 6500 is still in the dark ages with multiple letters per key, 5233 has a resistive screen and you're stuck with a qwerty keyboard. With Android you can get Swype which is so much faster, I can get 40 WPM, that's faster than most people type on a computer keyboard (33 WPM).

hmmm by swipe do you mean using your fingers only? The thing is I got a 5233 for chrissy, haven't yet opened it, as i'm unsure whether its just another dodgey phone or it can actually get stuff done. :/ so i don't know whether to take it back (get money back), open it or exchange for another phone if thats possible :/. just out of curiosity how much does the 5233 cost? i researched it and got around $150 - $200. the 6500 slide (old now) when it came out was a high $560 or something. but the 5233 would easily destroy the slide as yeah it uses those keys u gotta pres 3 times to get to one letter.

edit: just realised its the swype app. what does it do? and whats wrong with qwert keypad?

5233 is probably better than 6500 but any Android phone owns both of them. Get an Android.
its just weird. the model number like 6500 slide 6500 is higher than 5233 yet the 5233 came out 3 yrs later? I take it nokia dosen't use tradional modeling number system then.

the swype thing looks hard to use (would prob get used to it) but how does it know what letter u stop at, could lag and shit will get messed up. i'm not that hardcore of a textin person. I just need something thats better than the traditional 4 button press to get to one letter.

that android you said. FK it looks ulgy (the camera is in the middle, like honestly), and looks a bit wide to fit in my pocket. wifi is nice, but then again I'll never use wifi on my phone. If i need the net i'll use my iPod or laptop. I mys well just use the 5233 since its right in front of me WAITING to be opened. its starring at me saying OPEN OPEN OPEN!

Plus, i'm already used to nokia symbian OS, interface, so it should feel like a breeze to use.

thanx for ur advice :D

I fucked up. I should of got a Android phone such as a HTC legend instead of a Blackberry Bold 9700, because you have to pay to use integrated emails.

Crazy Johns has them for $149, http://www.crazyjohns.com.au/huawei-ideos-bl/view-prepaid/

Virgin has them for $159, http://www.virginmobile.com.au/Shop/ProductDetails/9423/Huawei-Ideos-Pre-Paid-Your-Cap

-----

The Garmin-Asus nuvifone A50 is $199, http://dicksmith.com.au/product/E6756/optus-garmin-nuvi-asus-a50-pre-paid-mobile-phone

It has a bigger screen and looks less fugly but only comes with Android 1.6 (upgradeable to 2.1).

-----

I'd get the Huawei just because of Android 2.2, but if you can't bear the fugliness then get the A50.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Android_(operating_system)

Android is an operating system based on Linux and created by Google, pretty much every new smartphone runs either Android or iOS (iPhone). Companies like HTC, Samsung, Motorola etc. take the open-source software and make the hardware.

The 5233 has a resistive (crap) touch screen whereas the Huawei has a capacitive screen (good). Capacitive screens rely on the capacitance of human skin so only work with fingers. Resistive screens can be used with fingers too but can get annoying since they rely on pressure.
