Never -ever- use a prescribed text, whether that be current (09 onwards) or former (from 01-08) syllabi. It shows a lack of imagination, and also, teachers do look down upon them, purely because there's a superfluous amount of notes on said related text (if it were prescribed) on the internet.
Are you for serials?!
I already used Robert Gray's poem Journey: The North Coast as a related text for distinctively visual... I'll change it for my trials and HSC but I had no idea. :/
NOW I NEED ANOTHER TEXT!!! FUCK!

That's what my teacher told me, and to me, it made sense to me. If you've gotten this far without being marked down, by all means go for it - but yeah. Since there are a lot of notes on Gray's poems (The Road Less Traveled, etc etc etc), given it was past HSC....it would make sense that it denotes a lack of 'originality' (despite whether or not you grabbed it from the ex-syllabus, which I sincerely doubt, however, the objective marker won't know that).

Yeah, I just used the annotations I made on it because we did it for prelim and I don't know whether I've been marked down because we haven't gotten our marks back yet. :(

Well, worrying about it now won't do you any good. Just ask your teacher tomorrow at school, what he/she thinks about it. =)

Edit: But I'm thinking if your analyse is unique and sustained, then you'll get a good mark, no matter what your text is.

I was told differently, you shouldnt even use a song as a related text if your prescribed text is skrzynecki poems, as they're too alike

But his prescribed is some sort of book and he wanted to use the poems as a related which is a definite no.
Yes, dont use prescribed texts at any times no matter what, or texts of similar forms

Guys, do you think that 'Let me in' by Matt Reeves is a good belonging related text??? I mainly talked about the visual techniques. It's the vampire film... kinda relates to belonging.

My prescribed text is Romulus my father.

I was told never do a song. Period. :p

Because the words of a song are only half the meaning. The other half is in the music itself (cadences, staccatos, other latin shitty words which I don't understand). Unless you have a musical background, don't do songs. [Or so I was told]

If you're a music student and you're good at analysing for timbre, pitch, tone, crescendos, etc. then doing a song is fine.

That's a lot of work to get through. Good luck. I don't think I will need to do that much because I have been studying most of the year (except some of this term - got lazy).
