I know about analysing through techniques, but how do you analyse the pitch, rythem etc to shape meaning?
Otherwise I might aswell be analysing a poem

If you don't know, don't do it.

It's only really something you can do with a deeper knowledge of music.

Ok focus on pitch, tonality, expressive techniques, duration, structure, texture and type of instrument in your piece.

-Pitch could indicate importance eg. Squeaky noise could imply annoyance or hatred
-Tonality emphasises the situation eg. Minor key emphasises the rise of fear in that situation
-Expressive emphasises anything eg. Accents/Staccato = Power
-Duration or tempo provides flow or events eg. 3/4 timing = Waltz= Happiness and laziness at that time/scene
-Structure establishes context eg. African drumming = old primitive times
-Texture emphasises emotions eg. Harmonies = Feeling a sense of belonging
-Instrument gives emotions attached with situation eg. Saxophone= sexy time
