anna, i dont think an extra psych major will do you any harm, in fact it may even be beneficial as potential employers will see you have an interest and understanding of people etc. so they might take it that you will get along better in the workplace with employees and potential clients

depends what kind of psychologist, but the one that everyone is thinking about when they say psychologist is usually the ones that counsel and diagnose patients with mental disorders.

ah yes i knew i was forgetting something. but i dont really understand your question. the psych major is just all psych subjects but obviously a major doesnt take up your entire degree. depending on your degree, you'd get a handful of electives, and yes in those electives you would be able to do philosophy

see thats the thing, PSYCHIATRISTS are the ones who deal with mental disease and things and prescribe meds etc. so then what do psychologists do? is the kinda stuff doctor Phil does? marriage counselling?

yep, the psych degree is a bit of a gimmick imo, because B Sc or even B Arts students who major in psychology are doing the exact same subjects as B Psych students.

OMGGG, what's the atar requirement for a b comm/b psych? basically... i can get into psych in like 50 million different pathways LOL. This kind of makes psychology a lot less attractive, simply because there's so many ways to get in don't you think?

To become a registered psychologist, you need to undertake 4 years of study all up minimum- ie. 3 years in an undergraduate degree doing a psychology major plus either an honors year in psychology or a 1 year graduate diploma (i think). Then you do either 1 year of supervised practice or something else which I cant remember, and then you can become a registered psychologist.

I would become a clinical psycholigst right??

i am not sure but i believe that psychologists and psychiatrists use different approaches when dealing with treating mental illness.
and obviously psychiatrists can prescribe drugs whereas psychologists cannot (they can however refer you to a doctor if they deem that you need meds)

there is no b com/b psych degree to my knowledge. the closest would be b com/b sc (or arts).
yes but heres the thing- getting into honors is a lot harder than it sounds. i think usyd only approves 100 honors applicants a year or something insane, and first preference is given to b psych students. although there are many pathways, it does take a lot of time.

and to be a clinical psychologist you need to do more stuff. I think maybe a masters or doctorate. But it does take more time.
